Just back from 8 glorious nights at POR. This was my family's 3rd time at this resort.
We tried to get preferred rooms but they were not available this trip with free dining so we booked a garden view and hoped for the best. My dad has some breathing issues so we were looking for something close to the main building and pool.
A few days before our trip I faxed a room request to the resort. Connecting rooms, first floor and close to the main building. We ended up being assigned to first floor rooms right next to each other in Arcadian House. At first I was afraid the location was going to be too far away from the main building but we ended up loving the location. Just a short walk across the bridge to old man river pool, quiet pool right next to our building, and not so far from main building. There was also a super close bus stop to our location.
As always, we love the boat rides to DTD, although the boats are starting to show their age. The PA system and the engine on 2 different boats were horrid.
My family rented a boat this time to sail the channel and it was a highlight of our stay. We also rented poles and did some fishing. Also a great way to spend some down time.
The bar by the pool was top notch and the servers were wonderful. We loved the quiet pool as much as the main pool. We ordered pizzas one evening and ate them by the pool next to the bar. Such a great time.
POR by far has one of our favorite food courts in Disney and the service was always friendly and prompt. We love the pasta bar.
Our room was very clean and we loved the updates. We received towel animals 5 out of the 8 nights we were there.
Check in was a bit of a hassle with the new magic bands for us (see my review of magic bands in another post) but I can't say enough about the customer service and the way the CM's tried to make things right.
Lastly are the buses. For this trip, buses were running non stop and we never had to wait longer then 15 minutes for a bus to any of the parks. We did see a GIANT black snake on the path one morning and it scared the bejeepers out of me but aside from that we love the feel of this resort.
As much as I would like to try another resort, we love love love POR so much that I doubt I ever will. When they open the door for you on that first day and say "Welcome Home" I really believe it.
