We were at POR Thanksgiving week. This was the first time we had stayed at this resort.

On Nov. 24, we arrived about 1:00 pm. My husband dropped our daughter and I off at the door and as we walked in a huge, beautiful Christmas tree and Christmas music greeted us in the lobby.

Carol quickly sat herself in front of the tv with the other children while I got in line to check in. I didn't have a long wait, just about 20 minutes. As I stood there I was able to take in the guiet beauty of the place. I knew that I was going to like it there.

Finally, it was my turn. We got our requests, Alligator Bayou, no-smoking, 1st floor and it was ready for us. The first room that came up on the CM's screen was Lodge 25, room 2526. I took it but got the impression she was ready to search for another location had I wanted to. The room was in exactly the location that I had wanted to be. I know that other Lodges are closer to the food court but we don't mind walking. Besides, the West bus depot was practically outside our door. I had read about how the South depot gets very crowded and there was never a crowd at ours.

By that time, my husband and son had joined us in the lobby so we headed back out to the car and drove over to our Lodge area. We were able to get a fairly close spot.

We were so pleased with our room. The rustic, laid back atmosphere was perfect for our family. The kids loved the log bedposts. Even though the carpet was a little worn and the wallpaper in the bathroom was starting to peel, the room was clean and that was most important. We especially liked having a ceiling fan. We also liked having the two pedistal sinks with a wooden shelf above them better than the basic countertop that you get in most hotels. We also had plenty of hot water and great water pressure from the shower head, better than what we have at home. We have stayed at Caribbean Beach before and even though those rooms are a little bigger, the room we had had more than enough room for us. We never felt like we were living on top of each other the whole week.

After getting established in our room, we set out to explore the resort. There were plenty of signs to help us get around. We liked the way you couldn't see from one end to the other. The landscaping was pretty but I bet it is beautiful in the spring.

We found the main pool and food court easily enough. The food court was never terribly busy any time we were in there. The store had about anything that you might need and plenty of souveneirs to choose from.

The kids swam 3 times while we were there, once in the main pool and twice at the quiet pool near our room. The main pool was heated but the quiet pool was barely warm.

I really liked this resort and definitely would stay there again. I'll be glad to answer any questions anyone might have. I know that there were other Diser's staying there while we were there. Too bad we didn't get together. I never saw a lime green ribbon.

Kirby,
Thanks for the review. This will be our first time staying "in" WDW.
We are pretty excited about it....okay...I am EXCITED!

We could not afford the deluxe places, so we asked around and people suggested POR.

Thanks again for the post.
We will be leaving for WDW in 2 weeks!

I don't think that you will be disappointed. POR is now our new favorite resort!

Having stayed in AB, would you now request MB, or stick with the former?

Thanks for the review!

We have stayed there twice. Once in MB and once in AB. We did n't think we would like AB, but we liked it better!:D

Glad you had a nice trip and thanks for the review!

A1A1, if I get the opportunity to go again and stay in POR, I will choose AB over MB. MB is just too formal looking for me. I enjoyed walking through the winding paths in AB.

Thanks for the review - glad you liked POR. It is our favorite resort! Having stayed in the mansions and the bayou, I like the bayou better. The buildings are smaller and more intimate. However, the beauty of the resort is that there's something for everyone! Welcome back!!:bounce:

Okay... I'm only two weeks out from my trip... it's just me and my 6 yo DD... we have a waterview room... what do you recommend I request for a building? And describe where it would be on a map of the resort... Transportation convenience is MOST important... as is a non smoking room...

Hi, Candleonwater! I see that you are staying in the French Quarter. That is separate from the Mansions and Alligator Bayou. It has only one bus stop. Your daughter will love the slide in the main pool. I believe that you can pull up a map on Pete's website or Deb Willis'. Can someone help us out?
