Decided to stay at the POR instead of the CR this coming April since we have a big family trip planned for October 2005 (save some $$). I stayed in POFQ back in 1997 but have never been to POR. Therefore, I was hoping to get some advice (pros and cons) about the resort.

- Which section/bldg. to request and/or avoid?

- Specific rooms to request (non-smoking) or avoid?

- How is the bus service? How long of a ride to MK?

- How far of a walk is it to the main bldg. from the furthest rooms?

Any other observations or advice is appreciated.

and we enjoyed the whole theme and resort. We were in the Alligator Bayou buildings because there are 5 of us and we need the trundle. We were the third building from the main hall. It was about a 3-4 minute walk to the food court or pool, and 5 minutes to the bus stop. There is a lot to do at this resort. Nice game room, good pool, playground right by the pool, poolbar on other side. There is a fishing hole where you can rent stuff to fish, rent bikes, water mice, take the boat ride to DTD, the piano player in River Roost Lounge is a real hoot! I can't tell anything about the Mansion buildings because we were never in them, but the rustic charm of the Bayou buildings is comfortable and homey. You almost expect to see Tom Sawyer painting the fence as you walk around! I'm sure you will get lots of input.

Good luck!

Hi,
POR has been my favorite so far.
It is similar to POFQ but larger.
The buses are shared with POFQ when it is open.
It is a short ride to Epcot, DTD.
MK is not too long either. About 15 minutes.
There are 4 bus stops in POR and I thought they ran very well.

I prefer the mansions to the rustic looking alligator bayou.
AB rooms, however, have a trundle bed and will sleep 5.

The longest walk to food court from the farthest room is probably about 10 minutes, but it is so beautifully landscaped there with meandering paths. If you want to be close to everything, you can now book a preferred location room for extra.

POR has Bob Jackson the piano player in the River Roost Lounge on Wed thru Sat. He is great and the kids and adults loved him.

They also have a fishing hole where you can rent cane poles and fish for about $4.00/30 mins.

There is a free boat ride to DTD that is like an attraction. If you get a good tour driver, they give you alot of info.

Overall, it is a beautiful resort with lots to do. The pool is very nice also with waterfalls and a slide.

let me know if you have any other questions.

POR is my favorite. I just love the landscape and theming. We stayed in the mansions. Seemed quieter than AB section. Though I'd like to try AB next time. We really love strolling around this resort. The boat to DTD is convenient and I understand they now offer carriage rides. The food court offers a nice selection. I actually prefer this resort over some of the deluxes. I think it's because the grounds are so beautiful. I have nothing bad to say about this resort.

Thanks for the replies. For those that have stayed in the mansions, which one did you stay in?

Hi,
We stayed in Acadia House.
It was just a short trip across the bridge and around the pool to the food court. (about 5 mins). Our room faced the parking lot but that was good for us since we drove. It was also very close to the bus stop. We shared a quiet pool with the other mansion (can't for the life of me remember the name) that is the farthest from everything.

I think Oak Manor and Parterre Place are the closest to the food court and they share a quiet pool

The mansions have elevators but I don't think that the AB rooms do.

I stayed in Oak Manor for my trip this past September. I really enjoyed the themeing of the resort. Oak Manor is really in a good location, not too far from the bridge that leads to the main building and not too far from the bridge that goes to the main pool.
There is a quiet pool between Oak Manor and Parterre Place, and the laundry facilities were right there at the pool which made it convenient for me to do some wash and while I waited hung out at the pool.
There was a bus stop behind Oak Manor and Magnolia Bend and it was a quick walk.
I only had one problem with the buses during my stay and that was one evening going to Epcot, the buses for the other parks went by 3 times before an Epcot bus came. When one of the other buses came during the second time we asked the driver to report it for us. I waited nearly 40 minutes that evening, but other than that the wait was never more than 5 to 10 minutes.
My family and I are going back to WDW the end of June and I have booked the POR for that stay as well.

These POR posts are great and will help on our 1/30-2/4 last minute trip planning. I've heard the carriage rides are $30 for thirty minutes. Has anyone done this and is it worth the $?
