My family will be staying at the POR for the first time in January :flower1: . I stayed there many years ago when it was still Dixie Landings. I have a couple of questions. Should we stay in the mansion area or the bayou area? Also, are there any better locations within each of those areas. We have two children, ages 7 and 12 months so we probably would like to be somewhat close to the pool but quiet is a bigger priority. I read with interest a recent post regarding the terrible time someone had at POR - has it really gone down hill that much or was that just a fluke?

I've stayed at Dixie Landings and we just stayed at POR in October. I enjoyed this last trip much more! We've only stayed in the mansions and my husband and I don't have kids yet so I don't know what's best for kids. We stayed in Panterre Place last time and it was quiet. We were near the quiet pool. The bridge was there so we could walk over to the lobby. I love the way they redid the rooms and the mattresses are so comfortable. I think the resort is so pretty. Our mousekeeper was probably the best one we've ever had. I don't think it's gone down hill at all. Hope you enjoy your trip!

Thank you, ufgator, for easing my mind! I was thinking maybe the mansions would be a nice area for us and if you say it was only a short walk accross the bridge to the main area that wouldn't be bad. Actually, we love to walk around the beautifully landscaped resorts! I see you are staying at the Poly - that is my dream spot! Have fun!

We were at POR in June with our 9 yr old and loved it. We stayed in Magnolia Terrace..room 5613, I think. It was a recently refurbished room and it was VERY quiet. I thought the walk to the pool was short and the food court was about the same distance. Ds and I swam in the quiet pool a couple of times. It was right next to our bldg. I loved the grounds and the quiet. The bus stop was also behind our bldg.

I can be picky about hotel rooms. If I don't like my room I don't hesitate to ask, in a nice way,for another (drives dh nuts). I had no complaints at POR. It was lovely!

We stayed at POR 3 times recently. For July 4th weekend we were in room 9547. It was a great experience all around. For July 13th to 18th we were in Building 14, had a bad experience with the room. For Thanksgiving weekend we were in room 9046 and had a great experience. My only suggestion for you is to request a 1st floor room because of the stroller. Some of the buildings don't have elevators, and lugging a sleeping baby with a stroller up stairs is too inconvenient.

 I have stayed in both sections. Stayed in the AB back in 97 and the Mansions in 2000. We were there in May and I did request the Mansions, however we were given a King room in AB #15 and it was great. Short walk to the main building and bus stop. I liked both sections, AB I think is more romantic, more greenery and such. Either way I dont think you can go wrong. Enjoy your trip
