Hello,

I want to stay at Port Orleans because of the renovation as well as the Queen size beds.

For those of you who have stayed at both can you tell me which you preferred?

Port Orleans Riverside or Port Orleans French Quarter?

Thanks,

Chokky

I much preferred POR to POFQ. I like the theming better. The theming at POFQ felt kind of chintzy. The food court at POR is the best and all of the activities are at POR, such as bikes, boats, Yehaa Bob, ect. Also, the boat to DTD picks up at POR first.

POR is better themed and has better food court but POFQ is much smaller. Faster to get from room to dining or buses at POFQ. POR is spread out so walks can be far.

Thanks everyone so far.
We usually rent a car anyway so don't use the buses that much so may lean towards POR.

I put other because we have not stay at POFQ but have visited there many times. We love POR! We prefer the way it is spread out, the lushness of the resort, the quiet pools. The surrey rentals and things are at the POR resort as well. We do make a trip to POFQ for the biegnets though.;)

I've stayed at POR twice and visited POFQ on both trips. When we walked over to POFQ, it was around 9:30am and the food court was packed. We had to eat in the lounge because there was not a table available. We also found that one bus stop became very crowded quickly which was a nuisance when the bus pulled up. POR never felt crowded due to its size, and the multiple bus depots helped to disperse the crowds. I also prefer the quiet pools, and there were multiple ones at POR. True that you can use the facilities at either resort regardless of where you are staying, but we found the walk between the two hotels long enough that we wouldn't want to venture over to the other side more than once a trip. Especially not to go swimming.

My family has always enjoyed POR. We visited POFQ a couple of times (and I think stayed there once, just overnight). POR feels more real and POFQ feels more fabricated to me.

Yes, POR is more spread out, and depending on where your room is, you may have a several minute walk to the main building where the lobby and food court are.

There are also 2 types of rooms in POR- Alligator Bayou and Magnolia Bend. Magnolia Bend is supposed to be antebellum mansions and Alligator Bayou is the more rustic south. I've stayed in both and the rooms are comparable. The biggest difference is that Magnolia Bend has elevators to the 2nd floor (all buildings are 2 story), but Alligator Bayou does not. I don't know what the elevator situation is like at POFQ if that's a deciding factor for you.

We've stayed in all, including both the bayou and mansions sides of POR, and I prefer POR for the amenities (esp. the pool) and the atmosphere. The AB side was my favourite for all the critters we saw while there.

However, next time we go, we'll be staying at POFQ because it's smaller and cute in a way that I think will appeal to my Princess and the Frog-loving almost 4 year old.

We've stayed at both and much prefer POFQ. Both are beautiful. But POFQ is much smaller~ meaning shorter walks to the bus stop, food court, and office. Plus, when they are sharing buses, you are the first picked up in the mornings (you get a seat) and the first dropped off at night (get 'home' quicker'). The shorter walks put POFQ over the edge for us.

I really liked POFQ great atmisphere although the last time i stayed at POR i was 5 and it was called dixie landings

I couldnt vote due to the fact I have never stayed POR...have walked there from FQ..looks very pretty, and very large. I have stayed FQ three times and love it!!

I can offer you this. I am a HUGE room snob and have stayed Deluxe since 1999 every year. THis past summer ended up at POFQ for a few days and was dragging my feet about it. Not really looking forward to it. long story short we LOVED it. My only gripes about it were mod related (noisy AC, no balcony) but we loved the food court there and went over to POR a few times for their pool and food court and much preferred POFQ. POFQ much smaller etc. Altough if you do stay there I would advise asking for a room FAR AWAY From the pool. The pool stays open all night I guess b/c there is no quiet pool like at YC and people are LOUD. I felt bad for guests staying near the pool as I don't know how one could sleep maybe that is why AC unit is so loud? White noise?

I put other, because although we've been to POFQ, while staying at POR, we've never actually stayed at FQ.
Last Jan 2011 we stayed at POR, and toward the end of my vacay my friend's friend arrived at POFQ, and gave us a tour of the new room. Very nice.

But I prefer Riverside Mansions because I love the theming. The rooms are being re done too. We had a new room in Aug. I like having the option of a quiet pool, larger food court, and the landscapping is beautiful.

Yes, there are suppose to be Princess rooms....I should add that my FQ stays have been for either 3-4 night stays. Perhaps if it was a longer vacation stay, POR has more options and feels a bit more resort like...IMO

I have stayed at both, and prefer Riverside, or as has been said - it will always Dixie Landings to me. I think it is a beautiful resort, with lush grounds, and much more to do than French Quarter.

I do like French Quarter though, but mostly because it's compact and the renovated rooms there are very nice.

I have no qualms with staying at either. :)

FWIW we stayed in a refurbished mansion room at POR recently and the headboard has a princess Tiana scene from the movie on it. Not sure if POFQ has the same detail.

And for the poster who mentioned the royal rooms... Two of the mansion buildings will be converted to royal rooms which will be an upcharge. However the remaining two mansion buildings will still have "normal" rooms

Just a quick story I have not shared on DIS....we just stayed at FQ in Dec....my DD5 and I with friends....she carries her Duffy Bear everywhere since we got him in June...well, we visited GF...and with all the excitement there....she placed him down somewhere...and that was it.
Mini meltdown in the lobby....told one of the CM's at Bell services...gave our name and info...thinking, she sleeps with him every night, watches that new Duffy bedtime story, it was going on 9 pm...I really didnt want to spend another $30....well, abt less than 2 hrs I get a call..they found it...AND FQ CM's drove there to get it, and hand delivered it to her to our room!!!
And wouldnt take a tip! Very impressed and it was a magical moment!
Sorry didnt mean to hijack!

I have stayed at both, and have no complaints about POR. We just loved POFQ better because of being so close to everything.
I really like the theming.
My DD13 is asking to stay there again in March. We can't stay there in March because we have a family of 5. (BC, this time.)
Even when I told her how great BC will be, she still would love to go back to POFQ.
FWIW, she has never asked to go back to POR.

Either way will be great, each is just a little different.
