We're torn between POR and POFQ. We've been to CSR and CBR and liked them both. But, wanted to try something different this time.

I originally thought that we'd go POR, but then I read some of the postings about being first on and first off the bus, the ease of getting around, and the general ambience of POFQ and I started to waffle.

It will be my wife, daughter (10) and me. We will have some days this time to hang around the resort, so that's why we'd like one with things to do. Even if it's just walking around and seeing the other areas of the resort.

We are thinking of Building 5 if we go to POFQ or Magnolia Terrace at POR.

We've stayed at ASM before and really liked it. But, since we will be in the room and the resort more this time, we're looking for a few more amenities. Although, we did like the food court at ASM better than either CSR or CBR.

We all like pools (and slides). We liked the slide at CSR very much and the pool area even better than CBR.

It seems from the pictures that the main pool areas at POR and POFQ are similar to each other except for cosmetic differences?

Also, from the maps I've seen, it seems like it is a very short walk between the two, is that the case?

We'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!

I can't comment on Riverside but we have stayed at the French Quarter and LOVED IT!!!! It is such a quaint atmosphere. I also must say that we stayed at CBR last year and almost asked to be transferred back over to the POFQ because, to us, it did not compare.

Hope this helps!!

To answer the question of distance between the resorts - it is a very beautiful walk and I would have to say it took us ~ 5 minutes to walk from POFQ to Boatwrights (the restaurant in Riverside)

POFQ is very quaint and cute, obviously looks like the French Quarter in New Orleans. They always have jazz music playing, and the physical layout of the resort is more compact than POR. POR is a little more spread out. The Magnolia Bend section of POR is like the sounthern antebellum mansions...very pretty. The Alligator Bayou section of POR is more rustic and relaxed atmosphere, the landscaping is more lush. I have stayed in both POFQ and both sections of POR and my favorite is POR Alligator Bayou. I just like the more serene, relaxed atmosphere. Any one of them would be nice though. I don't remember anything particularly negative about the bus service from any of the resort areas, but I don't get all crazed about busses like some folks do. I always figure if I miss one another will be along in a few minutes.;)

Port Orleans French Quarter to me and my family is one of the nicest, family resorts on the property. The staff there is excellent and the pool area is great. When we had some problems at CBR our last trip, (they could not get us Martinique even though they promised and confirmed and stuck us in Jamaica which was way to far away from the main area.), after trying it out for a day, we drove over to POFQ where we stayed several other times and they helped us out totally to relocate.
We always look at other places to stay on property but family always votes to go back to POFQ as it is truly a great vacation resort. You won't be sorry. Last trip was 14 days at POFQ.

They are both great. We like Riverside a little better, however. The advantage of FQ is that it is smaller, but Riverside does have a lot to do, as well as a great restaurant (Boatrights). Magnolia Terrace would be a great place to stay. We have stayedin Parterre Place as well as Acadian House. We have also stayed in the Bayou homes, which are also great.

We've stayed at several Disney resorts and the only resort where we had a bad experience was at POR. Earrings were stolen from my room (I was stupid enough not to lock them in the safe), housekeeping took my DD's favorite blankie and could not find it, my DD was stung by a bee at the kiddie pool and our luggage was lost for a few hours after we checked out. We did not feel the staff was very accomodating at POR and would never go back there again. We love CBR but based on the posts I have read would be willing to try POFQ.

Rick: I don't believe you said when you are going. We were at POR earlier this month. It is my understanding that the POR pool will be closed in January. They are doing some work on the bridge over the pool and some other general improvements. With a 10 year old DD, the pool is probably important to you and you may wish to check into the pool work if you're going in January or February.

We have stayed at both POFQ and POR, 3 times each. My personal favorite is POFQ, but our 8 year old DD likes the pool and playground at POR better. So, we stay at POR. The pool is larger and the slide is longer. The playground at POR is a lot bigger than the POFQ playground and is far superior in terms of theming and equipment. Not a whole lot of people use playgrounds, but we enjoy them and if you'll be hanging around the resort, your DD might enjoy the play area.

At POFQ, we were in Buildings 5 and 7. 5 is great. At POR, we've done Alligator Bayou Buildings 14 and 15 -- both are great locations. I'm not a mansion type, so I've always requested the AB section.

The FIFO bus thing at POFQ is an advantage, but there were days when Disney used the "on demand" system for busses at the resorts and they'd send empty busses to get us at POR. Drop offs are different because both resorts are picked up at the same place at the theme parks. It takes a little longer to get to POR, but it's not that bad.

Both are great resorts. Have a wonderful time.

We've stayed at both. Our favorite is POFQ. However, since you have a 10 year old I would say the pool at POR would probably be a better fit along with the playground. In addition, you rent the boats and bikes at POR (for both resorts) and POR has a sit down restaurant, if that is important to you. In addition, POR has several quiet pools were POFQ only has the big pool in the middle of the resort. Plus, the POR has a fishing hole right there beside the pool area which might be fun. The walk between the two is about 10 minutes with a 3 year old so 5 minutes is about right. They are very close and you can use the amenities at both resorts. If you are going in Jan or Feb. I would probably stay at POFQ because of the refurb with the pool at POR. If you are going after that, you might want to really consider POR as the pool refurb is suppose to be really nice from what I've heard.

POFQ is my favorite moderate!

We have stayed at POR twice-once in Magnolia section and once in Alligator section--I liked AB better and didn't think I would.

You will have a great stay at either resort!:D
