POR or AKL??? Help!

Can someone come over and choose for me? Seriously come to my house & click the mouse! We are going to Disney from Feb. 5-8 for our 4 yr old & 10 mo old dd's first trip & we are fl residents so we will have the car.

Problem: I have POP reserved because I thought I had decided on that since its such a great deal. BUT Now DH got me thinking about a balcony at a deluxe so he and I can go out there after we put the babies to sleep.......(one of them wakes soo easily)

Also I just dont think Ill be happy at POP, I need some luxery, and if mama ain't happy.....well, you know!

So Im trying to choose between AKL & POR can anyone give me pros/cons of either? Also anyone know the sq.ft. difference of a standard room in either?

Mods don't have balconies (unless I'm not thinking straight).

I totally understand where you are coming from. If it is at all possible, upgrade to AKL. The mods don't have balconeys. The upper floor(s) of the mods have an elevated outside walkway, so you can't comfortably sit out there.

I can't quote the exact square footage of all of the different rooms. But I can say with confidence that the mods are a fair bit roomier than the values. And our room at AKL seemed a little bit bigger than the Mods.

I know that's not much help so let me give an example: Me, DH, 2 Teenage DDs. The value (260 sq ft) was positively cramped. Had to go outside to change my mind. It has a single sink vanity.

POR (315 sq ft) was comfortable and had 2 sinks in the vanity area.

AKL (?? sq ft) was roomy enough for us all to sprawl out in, had 2 sinks in the vanity area AND had a balconey with a wonderful view.

Having stayed at both, AKL wins hands down. It's a deluxe resort. Is newer, felt cleaner, there are the animals to gaze at...etc etc. it's truly no contest. Good luck and have a great trip.

I agree with AKL. What a beautiful resort and it has my very favorite restaurants!!! You just can't go wrong. I hear people say it's too far away from everything.....I think it adds, MAYBE, 5 minutes to some detinations. Well worth the extra money (and time).

This was the exact decision I was making a few months ago. I LOVED our trip to POR. I love the landscaping of that resort. We had a great stay last year.
But.. we went to JIKO on our last trip and thought that AKL was beautiful and wanted to give it a try. AKL won this time.
I would say for your trip that AKL would be better because you'll have the balcony.

I agree, the AKL is better than POR. I stayed at POR last visit and it was VERY nice place, but AKL rooms and views were more to my personal liking. The only downside to AKL IMO was the fact I had to walk through 3/4 of the resort to get to my room!! If you can deal with that (only if you get an obscure room) it's worth it. The animals outside more than made up for all the walking in the hotel.

I say just pick AKL!!!!

I would pick AKL, hands down! AKL is one of our favorite resorts! We have never had a problem with the location of our room but if you want it to be a shorter walk request it to be by an elevator or close to the lobby. Your DDs will love the animals! I think it is a great choice! Enjoy!

We stayed at AKL it was very nice. Loved the balcony. We paid for a standard room and we ended up having a great view of the savannah, we really lucked out. 2 issues we had was the wait 4 the buses and DDP there is only 1 counter service place to eat. It boreing over the week.

I would pick AkL over a value any day

I would go with AKL. We've never stayed at POR, but for only $180 more, I would go deluxe .

Glad you liked AKL but was very curious about your comment on Mara (the CS place). I don't think that there is any onsite resort that has more than one CS. If you are bored with the place, why not just go somewhere else to eat? There's gotta be close to a hundred places to choose from in WDW

For that little bit of money, as much as I like POR I'd be booking with AKL!

It's really nice at that resort. I'm hoping to stay there again sometime - savannah view instead of the pool view.

You'll have your own balcony at AKL and seeing the animals every day will be great for your kids. The food court was good and the pool was very, very nice.

There were also activities for the kids so that would be another fun thing your 4 year old might like.

There is no question--if you can afford it, stay at AKL. It is totally worth the price difference. It's a stunning resort, just absolutely BEAUTIFUL.

With a baby that may be snoozing in a pack and play, having a balcony to sit out on for coffee or wine is wonderful! It is nice to have the extra space. The resort is very peaceful and relaxing and is great for some quieter down time with little ones. Plus they will love gazing at the animals. There are also a lot of kid activities there that the moderates don't have that your older child may enjoy.
