FYI,
We just stayed at POR from 08/25 to 09/01. We stayed in Bldng. 95 (Partierre Place). They had people on the roof the whole time we were there. I was not happy when we walked out from under the bldng and a worker threw a ladder off the roof to the ground...scared the crap out of Dw and me. They were working on the eaves trough. They were using a sawzall (reciprocating saw) on the metal. Metal shavings were coming off the roof blowing on to the sidewalks....
The grounds were all tore up around the building where they had been driving the lift trucks....

We really like it there, but were not impressed at all on this trip.....it was not crowded at all. Why not close the bldng. complete the job move on to the next.

Sorry to hear that. We stayed in the same building July 4th, and there was some scaffolding close to our room, but nothing being done like you spoke of. I am surprised that they threw a ladder down without warning. What if someone stepped our at the wrong moment.

Hope you were still able to have a nice time at the parks!

Does anyone know how long the construction is going to be going on? :confused3 We are going Dec 12-19. Ok, maybe I am getting ahead of myself and a bit paranoid, I just want to be prepared. Is there anyone I could call to find out? Thanks for the info.

Why didn't you ask for another room I sure would have. They should have closed that bldg during construction no excuse whats so ever.

It is very common for resorts in Florida to do significant maintenance and repair during the off-seasons. Major construction, where walls are being torn down and put up, and the structure itself is compromised, will result in buildings being closed, but it would be too wasteful to close off buildings when the work is minor, such as repairing siding and roofing.

Just wanted to say that I KNEW you were from Michigan when I saw "eaves trough"!! I grew up in Kalamazoo, and that's what we called them, too -much nicer sounding than "gutters"!

We are checking in at POR on 9/16. I'm a little concerned now that I've seen you post. I will be calling there today to see how long this will be going on. Thanks for the info.

I am ckecking in the 17th of Sept. Let us know if you find out when the construction will be done. Thanks!

Yes, it is now:

Value Resorts: 2007 Seasons
Value Season:
1/1 - 2/14, 8/5 - 10/3, 11/25 - 12/19

Hoping they will be done with the construction before Sept 30 - we are checking in then and I requested Paterre Place so that we would be close to my favorite POFQ.

So Sorry to hear about the construction over your head. That would have made me crazy. I was there the same time as you but in AB/14 and saw no construction at all. There were however several people tinkering with the water wheel outside the food court, which only moved for about 30 minutes one day and then stopped! ??
I really would have requested a room change.

But it's only 2006
Sorry, here's the 2006 info. As you can see most of the OP's visit was indeed during value season.

Value Resorts: 2006 Seasons
Value Season:
1/1 - 2/15, 8/27 - 10/4, 11/26 - 12/19

Have a look around the boards, see some of the pics of the parks and how many reports there have been of zero waiting for rides. That proves it's off season :thumbsup2

I'm glad to hear about this though. I'll ask when we check in here and see if I can get a building that isn't currently being worked on!!

I called Disney this morning regarding the construction at POR. I tried the regular 1-407-W-DISNEY line first. They said that they "were not aware" of any construction or recent construction and that the resorts normally notify them of any construction.

I then called the resort directly. The person I talked to had to put me on hold and ask because she was also not aware of any recent construction on the property. She came back and said "why yes, there are refurbishments going on and this will last for the next few months." :(

Thanks! It still seems kind of early to be off season. You thinkg they would wait until Jan/Feb.
