Has anyone done the carriage ride at POR? Can you tell me a little more about it?
Thanks!

We did it in June and loved it. The route was down the path behind the POR main building then behind POFQ, around the end of POFQ and back up to POR via the parking lots. The driver was charming and told some great stories, some of which I think were true!:lmao:

There is a phone number to make a reservation, so you can't "sign up" onsite. I don't know if you had the phone number how far in advance you could call.

We tried it on our spring 2003 trip and had mixed feelings. DW loved the ride, the scenery, the driver... DD12 hated the whole thing, it was "boring" to her... DH (me) thought it was a little pricey:confused3

I can see where it might be boring to a 12-year-old! DD was 7 at the time and is TOTALLY horse-crazy, so she was in heaven. We found it relaxing and enjoyed watching her be "in love" with the horse.

We just stayed at PO-FQ for Christmas. The first night of our visit I heard the clip clop of the horse hooves on the cobblestone outside our window and immediately regretted not booking a carriage ride. I spent the next hour peering out the window in eager anticipation of the next carriage to pass by our room.

The reservations can be made by calling 1-407-WDW-Play (407-934-7529).

We boarded our dog at Ft. Wilderness and they are the good folks who book the carriage rides. There was a sign that stated "Walk-ins Welcome" for the cariage rides. I suppose that if they had availablility at the time of inquiry they could schedule a ride for you.

The kennel at Ft. Willderness will be undergoing a transition in the next few weeks. A company called "Best Friends" will be taking over that kennel and the others on Disney property. The reason I mention it is that the horseback riding and carriage ride reservations were made at the desk of the kennel. The reservation desk for the kennel will be moved to a small room near the bathrooms. I don't now how this might impact future walk up availability.

I hope you have a great ride!

Sorry for the double post. It is really cold here in South Florida and it has worked its way into my brain. (I know I will not get any sympathy from anyone else but it is really cold here in Florida! I saw that there was actually snow in Daytona Beach!!!)

I think it depends on your driver. We went two years ago over Christmas and scheduled a ride. I was kinda expecting stories and stuff, but our driver was quiet unless you asked a question, and even then the answer was pretty short (not rude, just brief). DD4 was/is nuts about horses and she asked if she could pet the horse, and was told "no, not while he's working." Well, I guess that makes sense but DD was disappointed. I'm trying to remember if the coaches carried little signs that encouraged tipping, or maybe that was some other carriage ride we took.

Thanks for the replies! I will definately look into this more.

mmluvr - my husband is visiting friends in florida this week, he probably brought the cold! (we're from south dakota) At first he said it was nice, but now he's even complaining about the cold - i'm assuming the houses there aren't as insulated as up north. I hope it warms up soon! I couldn't believe the temps there!

My DH & I did it for our 5th Wedding Anniversary in 2005. We enjoyed it because it was very romantic.

We have done the PO carriage ride and have loved it (although we were not crazy about seeing the parking lots!)

This past trip we did one at FW - the driver gave us the option of going through the woods or going through the campsites and see all the places decorated for Christmas. Seeing as how it was Christmas Eve and they were doing the judging that night, we chose the lights. What a wonderful time!!!

I forgive your husband!!!:rotfl: It is warming up here in South Florida. (I am sure everyone is snickering and not offering any symapthy...) I am a former NYer and this cold weather reminds me why I moved down here!! It needs to go back up north where it belongs! :rotfl2:

When you do the Carriage Ride ask for the French Quarter route over the Riverside Route. We did the Riverside route this time and most of the time is spent along the parking lot or on the road. When you do French Quarter, you go along the river and snake through the French Quarter streets - much nicer.

We'll forgive you - the cold here was unbearable & yes we did have itty bitty snow flurries here!! DD saw them while at the dentist in Pt. Orange.

DH & I have been talking about taking the carriage rides this month when we're at ASMu. When we stayed at POR we had DD with us & it just wasn't something she was the least bit interested in. This trip is just for us & just for relaxing and taking our time, so that's something great to do! Thanks for all the input.:goodvibes
