POR-Best location for...

We are going to POR next and my mom jsut decided to join us (Me, 2 DS and DD). We will be spending time at the parks and she will be staying back at the resort. Where is a good location that would be near the main area-food court, shops?, etc. Also it would be great to be near a pool -does not have to be the main pool.Any suggestions?

Mom is not good with stairs, so are there elevators or do I need to request a ground floor?

Well, it looks like you will have 5 in your party, that will limit you to the AB section - they have trundle beds to accomodate the 5th person (generally a small person (under 9).
Ther are no elevators in the AB section, but there are 2 fllors, so if stairs are a problem, then you probably should request a ground floor.
As far as which building to request, i'm not much help for you there, we stayed in bldg 28, which was about halfway between the main building and the west bus depot - our family liked that location - it was far enough away from the main building, but not too far, and walking to the pools wasn't too bad either, but that was us - others may feel different.

Yes -we do have 5. So Alligator Bayou it is!
As long as we are near a pool-even the quiet pool-this would be good for my mom.

We just stayed in bldg 18 and it was perfect. It's the second one from the main area and has a quiet pool behind it. Also, we could cut through the parking lot to get to the main bus area if we didn't feel like walking back through the main building. As the pp said, request the ground floor, there are no elevators in this section!

This resort looks huge! Did you ever go over to the French Qtr side?

Can I call ahead of time or is it first come first serve?

The resort is not that huge. It's about 1 mile from the top edge of Riverside to the bottom edge of French Quarter. It's about a 7 minute walk from one food court to the other. It's a really nice walk. There is also a boat between the two.

You might want to pay for a water view to ensure facing a quiet pool. You can request a view of a quiet pool. most people want river views, so that shouldn't be a problem. You best building to request would be 18. It's right next to the pool and very close to the main building. It used to be smoking but when I stayed there in February, I didn't realize this until after I got home. We had no clue. 16 or 17 would be close too.

When you check in, you should politely say "Could we be in Building 18 on the ground floor if possible". If they don't have anything, they will look for something in the buildings nearby. We asked for 27 if February and they had nothing and offered my 18.

Bouilding 14 is closest, 15 an 18 are also close with 18 having a quiet pool ( if there is such thing as quiet) ight next to it.
