Hello!

We have stayed (one time) at POR in the Mansion area. We are going again and want to stay in the Alligator Bayou section....can anyone recommend a good building (non smoking). Which is closest? Which the quiet? How is the theming? Thanks!!!princess:

We stayed in building 14, first floor, corner room. It was a great location. Very close to food court and water (with ducks) was only steps away. I don't know if it's considered preferred now, but it wasn't then. Also was great for parking since we had our own rental vehicle.

All rooms are non smoking now. The AB has trundle beds which was very convenient for DD, then 4.

i hope this helps to make your decision easier...they are all going to be smoke free soon. i haven't been there yet, but i know we want the mansions. i am hoping for a first floor near a quiet pool.

I stayed in AB #18 back in '99. That was considered "standard". But it's great because there is no view of the parking lot. We had lovely landscaping all around and actually a bit of a glimpse of the Sassagoula River. It's not as close as #14 or #15....but those will get you a better chance of a parking lot view. I just didn't feel like #18 was standard view. Now that building "used" to be smoking but with the two rooms we got, we never noticed even a hint of smoke. Now all the rooms are non-smoking.

OP - are you in a group of five? Sometimes POR will only give Alligator Bayou rooms to people with groups of five, since there is an extra trundle bed in those rooms. Often, people with less than five will automatically be put in mansions. I been denied Alligator Bayou twice now (I requested ahead of time, and asked nicely at check-in, too!) since I wasn't a group of five. :( But many DISers here have had Alligator Bayou with less than five, so it's not set in stone!

But don't get your hopes up too high about Alligator Bayou - I personally won't stay at POR anymore since I can't get AB, and I am bored of the mansions! I want to see something new! :teeth:

I just stayed at POR in a room in the AB section in May. Here's a link to my web page, with lots of pictures and comments. Enjoy! :sunny:

Thank you so much for sharing your pictures. It made me homesick for the AB. It is just so incredibly beautiful. POR will always have a special place in my heart since it is where we stayed for our very first Disney trip ever. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat, but double beds just don't work for our family anymore. We're all too big to share double beds. Oh, how I wish the moderates had queen beds! I love the AB so much :sad1:

We're going to try two rooms at POP next time. It looks like a very fun, colorful resort, but I will miss the tranquil beauty of POR.

Hello,

We stayed in AB in building 14 last June 2006. It was a first floor corner room facing the river. I liked the corner room since it had two nice windows. We were the closest building to the food court. It was also very close to the main bus stop and a parking lot. We loved it!!!! I would definitely do it again.

My cousin stayed in the building behind building 14. She was close to the parking lot but also very close to food court and main bus stop. She normally stays in the deluxe hotels. After her POR AB experience, she may not go back to deluxe.

Thanks for the responses! We are going in Sept so I don't see tht there should be a big deal with getting what we want....we have in the past but you never know.....we would like to stay in AB but if we get Mnasions that is fine too....we are at DISNEY!!!!!:rotfl:

In regards to the smoking room....I know they are all going to non smoking but I am sure the "old smoking rooms" still linger and stink of smoke......does anhone know what buildings are not smoking (even before the ban)? Thanks for all the responses! Have a great day!!!!:woohoo:

Close wouldn’t necessarily be quiet – 14, 15, and 18 are closest to the main building, but the higher numbers are quieter. Of the three, I think 18 used to be smoking-optional. Also, in reference to a response above, there are no “preferred” or “standard” locations at Port Orleans. The designations are Standard, Water View, and King. And, in reference to another response above, all resort rooms are already entirely non-smoking, effective June 1, 2007.
Actually, I think if you check a recent version of the Unofficial Guide (printed in 2006 or 2005 or so), the resort descriptions will tell you which buildings at each resort were smoking-optional, or at least had some rooms that were. Then you can specifically request NOT to be placed in those buildings.

Smoking optional in AB : 18 and 38
Smoking optional in the Mansions : Oak Manor
