For those of ya'll who have tried both of these, which did you prefer? Here are my personal pros and cons.....what would you do?

POR--pro--themed pools with slides, nice variety of counter service, Boatwrights, nice theming, gorgeous grounds, boat to DTD, less expensive

Con--with a family of 5 staying in a hotel for 9 days gets a little confining; can't cook meals, no couch, have to eat on bed if eating in room

Wilderness Cabin--pro--more space; full kitchen so save money on meals, petting zoo, pony rides, electrical water parade, campfire movies

con--don't know if it's as nice as POR--we haven't stayed here (I like nice places...that's part of vacation to me...I was worried about going from AKL to POR); need to rent a golf cart or will have to catch an internal FW bus to get anywhere....pool, bus stop or boat launch to parks, etc.

I have stayed in both resorts and your right both have pros and cons. The only thing I hated about FW was that I had a 4 month old and as new parents ( at the time) we brought everything except the kitchen sink. There was three adults and a tiny baby and us taking the tram to the bus with a stroller, the baby, and bags were insane. Now my kids are older but still use a stoller so I would'nt stay unless my kids were out of the stroller.

POR was great. The property is beautiful but I do like the deluxes better(location). I am staying at POR in July (my cheap trip) but in October I'll be at BW and somewhere else(Haven't deceided yet).

So I am not sure I helped but if you don't have a stroller try FW. Either way its a great trip!! ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

I've stayed at both and I like both for various reasons - most of which you've stated.

My family now chooses to stay at POR because they felt too confined at FW as far as getting around the resort. My family likes the themed pool, food court, boat to DTD and just strolling around the resort at POR.

However, I must admit when we go in July (not a cheap trip for us) we will be getting 2 rooms because the "kids" are now teens and we are on different sleeping patterns.

This is a tough decision for you and I just don't know what to tell you. For us, we were more interested in the grounds - we are not really in the room that much. :sunny:

Well, we much prefer Ft. Wilderness to any other resort at WDW. I have stayed deluxe, moderate, and value, and the Fort is just home for us. We like the spaciousness of the cabins as well as the feel of being separate from the families around us. We like to take the golf cart around the campground, but it is not a must have. You can get around without the cart. We like the kitchen, grill, and porch of the cabins. As a matter of fact, Fort Wilderness is so special to us that we purchased a popup so that we can now camp.

We stayed at both -- and I LOVE both!

However, I grew up camping so have certain expectations when it comes to a campground to start with. Disney's FW blows all other campgrounds out of the water. It's hard to explain, but know that I will NEVER go camping again but still will choose to stay at the FW cabins anyday :)

What I don't like about the cabins is the grocery shopping trip to fill the fridge -- this ranks right up there with ironing on vacation with me :) Also beware that if you are evacuated due to a hurricane (you didn't mention what time of your you're going) chances are Disney will move you over to POR and most refridgerated food bought will go to waste unless you also bought a cooler.

The grounds throughout the campground resemble pine woods carefully taken care of. I can't say you'll see too much theming outside of your cabin until you get down to the store or waterfront resteraunts. It's just peaceful.

I'm a super fan of the cabins as well; we've only gone to WDW once and that's where we stayed. Definitely splurge and get the golfcart; place is pretty inconvinient without it. The Camping forum here at DIS is devoted to FW and will answer just about any question you have--the folks there are awesome.
