Pete - We've had 2 pop's and enjoyed the stew outta both of them. The first one (we got it right after we got married & christened it on our honeymoon at...Fort Wilderness) was nothing more than 2 pull-out beds and a floor. It was a Nomad & as basic as you can get - more like a tent with wheels & a vinyl floor.
Our 2nd one was a Starcraft & had everything but a shower & toilet. The only time I ever disliked owning a pop was one time when we had to set up and take down in the rain. Other than that a pop-up maintains that sense of camping while giving you some creature comforts. Plus - there isn't a whole lot the kids can destroy - which makes camping a lot more relaxing.
Just make sure your HOA restrictions allow for you to open it up and air it out when you get back from a trip. This is an absolute necessity if you have to break camp with wet canvas either from rain or heavy dew.
