Hi gang,
I'm home from FDNY headquaters and a very strange visit. I saw the shoulder specialist today, btw good thing i got there exactly for my appt at 7am. Cause the dr did not show up until 9:30.
So tell me i'm not nuts, so i go in to the room and he checks me out and then gives me a referel to a shoulder specialist??
So i ask aren't you the shoulder specialst??? As in Orthopedist, M.D. as in doctor. He says yes, but i want you to see an.... Thats right you guessed it, he wants me to see an Orthopedist. Thats like going to see allergist and after he comes in the room and checks you out, he sends you to see an allergist.????
He wants me to get another opinion, which is what i planned to do anyway, i just never thought a doctor would come out straight and tell me that. so the good news is he called his friend, who happens to be an Orthopedist as well with a private pratace in brooklyn. Soon as he said "my friend" , i figured it out. He wants me to see his friend, all my bills are covered and paid for by the city of new york, no co-pay, no nothing out of my pocket, since i was injured in the line of duty. This guy is sending me to his friend where his friend will most likely submit a bill to the city saying how he saw me and it cost XXXX and the city won't even asked me if i had this or that done and just pay it. These are your tax dollars at work, if you pay nyc taxes anyway. Sad huh? Gotta love the system.
Anyway he was able to get me an appt today at 2:30, so i figured i just go. I mean how much can a second opinion hurt anyhow.
Btw thew guy i saw today said its one of 3 things.
Blown rotator cuff- Which means surgery.
Seperated A/C something-- which is maybe 50/50 either surgery or lots of rest and rehab. Only an Mri can tell which is needed.
Ripped/torn muscle- which is just rest
I'm hoping for the rest only with no surgery. I am the biggest whimp when if comes to being cut open, but i guess whos not??
