Looked interesting. So I plunked down my $1.99 and tax for 3. That was enough for one each for my family of 3. Employee asked if I wanted sugar, which was a yes.

Then I looked in the bag. Each one was about 3 inches long and an inch wide. They were fine but man they were small. I found a photo.

They weren’t super fluffy. The chocolate filling moistened it up a bit where it was more doughy.

I got these about a month ago; honestly, I found them disgusting and I'm not the sort that expects much from a dessert at a fast-food fried chicken chain. I got 6 (that's the quantity they are offered in here) and DH and I each took a single bite out of one. The rest went in the trash. :crazy2:

I've never been to Cafe du Monde, but my expectations were similar to a place that had reasonable sized beignets for $1 each, but served with their special apricot jam. I'd also buy an extra one to go for my manager, who liked them but said they weren't very healthy. He was Italian and he said it was very similar to an Italian dessert.

The last time I had beignets was at a Vietnamese cafe in San Jose that called them New Orlean style. They were somewhat long and twisty, but they were each a pretty good size and about $2.50 for 4. I think I even got an extra one once. Not sure where else to get some. There's a New Orleans style restaurant near me, but their beignets are expensive as heck.

I'm a 10 minute walk from Cafe du Monde. And those don't have anywhere near enough powdered sugar to qualify as beignets.

The ones I had were freshly dusted with powdered sugar. There was certainly no shortage of that. This photo is of what it looks like after it's been sitting around for a while and the powdered sugar gets absorbed by the oil. This is what Popeye's uses to market them:

Strike that. The last time I had beignets was at Disneyland with the candy cane dusted ones at Mint Julep Bar at New Orleans Square.

If they actually look like that in the order, then okay. Might be worth trying. I fully admit I'm a beignet snob lol

There’s a difference between letting them sit vs freshly dusted with powdered sugar. But the ones I got were like little tubes.

The Popeye's ones are something, but they're not beignets. They're beignet-esqe (ala the Jungle Cruise's chicken-esque) or beignet reminiscent.
I make my own because we can't get them here. Even easier, Cafe du Monde sells a beignet mix.
