Pope's visit affecting crowds this coming week?

A number of Philadelphia schools have off next wed, thurs, and fri due to the Pope's visit, which is why we are leaving tomorrow for the week Do D.C. and New York schools have off as well? Do you think it will affect crowd levels?

Visiting D.C., NYC, and Philly. Philly schools have off. Sorry for the confusion. I would love if the Pope made a surprise visit to Main St while we were there!

Schools were already closed on Wednesday for Yom Kippur and Friday for the papal visit. So they threw Thursday in there. I actually think they put Thursday in there because they were initially going to close roads starting Thursday.

It's supposed to be a mad house in philly. They are closing a few main highways including two bridges going to NJ Friday to Monday. Roads are closing in NJ too. My job in NJ is actually scaling back hours due to road and bridge closures and traffic nightmares. And I work for a hospital!

They are expecting 5 million people in the city for the papal visit and the world gathering of families.

On my way to work (I work in NJ near the bridges to NJ) the tour/greyhound buses were already coming in with people.

Nah, no days of from school here in D.C. We know how to deal with the crowds, we do inaugurations every four years. Similar crowds in the same location.

Maybe Im confused about next week, but the Pope will be in NY next week arriving Thurs 9/24 and leaving for Philly on Sat 9/26. Been watching closely because we are flying out of JFK to disney on saturday and the pope is flying out of JFk on the same day.

Yes he's arriving in Philly on Saturday but road closures/restrictions in & out of the city begin next week. I work for a federal agency and we were given the option to telework next week and out building is closed to the public on Friday.

I'm actually going to NY for the UN General Assembly, so I'm still stuck dealing with the Pope getting around (road closures) but not nearly as bad as my colleges staying in a Philly.

At first I thought this post was in jest; Guess what: All the Catholic schools in a 30-mi radius of Philadelphia (yes, where I live) are closed, and yep: I personally know 7 families who took off to WDW! So, I too am now wondering how crowds are affected by the Pope's visit in Philly! P.S. I have the good fortune of having tickets to see the Pope on Saturday speak in person at Independence Mall then also at the celebration on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway that evening. THEN I will be seeing Mickey in person next week! What a week to remember!!

Nah, no days of from school here in D.C. We know how to deal with the crowds, we do inaugurations every four years.

Now DS18 goes to a Catholic high school but it is private so they stayed open but even though they are not off, they are affected by the busing I mentioned above and many kids take the train to his school and that will be a mess on Friday and Monday.

Ds12 is off because he goes to a parochial school, if DS18 had been off to I totally would have looked into going to WDW or somewhere else. I know many families who are taking vacation time, DS12's best friend's family headed to San Francisco
