The Pope is going to give his security detail a heart attack. He did a walk-about today among the people. Kissing babies, etc. They can't be happy.

I think that is nice. He wants to be among the people. JPII was among the people. DD14 said "I guess the popemobile will be a convertible"

I'm sure his security detail isn't happy at all.

But Catholics all over the world are thrilled.

I think it is wonderful! Instead of being removed from the people he wants to be with the people.

I like this guy already!

He's a people person! It's great. I knew when they said he was a Jesuit, he'd be out and among 'em. That's what Jesuits do. So cool! I hope he travels soon!!

I agree that it is wonderful. He is the peoples pope and this is a great for the Catholic community. I too hope he travels soon. Bless him.

and???? I 'm sure all Pope know the chance they take, as do we all.
People are posting as if Francis is the first pope in modern history to walk among the people, and he is not. The shooting of JPII caused a major shift in papal protection.

Risky or not it is refreshing to see him with the people. I felt b16 was too stodgy not approachable and had little in common with the mere laity.

I don't practice Catholicism any longer but I have to admit Francis seems to know what the people need.

This makes me want to get to the Vatican even more now.

He is going to be a Pope for the people.

He is so down to earth.

I am encouraged by the selection of the new pope and the approach/worldview he brings to the position. Pope Benedict seemed a very disconnected, "Ivory tower" leader and I don't think that suits the needs of the laity in our time. Pope Francis seems very down to earth and in touch with the needs of the everyday people of his country and now of the world.

Of course he does. No need to be snippy. As has already been pointed out, Pope Francis is not the first Pope to be out and about the public, Pope JP11 was until he was shot and that changed how he interacted with us. We all remember how we loved that he reached out to us. And yes, I am sure that he knew what a chance he was taking as he made those very personal gestures.

It is wonderful to see Pope Francis keeping his practice of moving among the public but it is only a matter of time, I believe before he is forced to change this.

I think so too. I think that he may be the breath of air we need as Catholics. Our Priest discussed this during Mass this week and he is as hopeful as we all are that Pope Francis can lead us towards a change. I have to admit that I was mesmerized by him when he first appeared as Francis, his entire approach was different than any I remember.

I hope he does do well as a pope. I'm not Catholic, but I wish him well anyway. A strong pope can have influence far beyond just those in the Catholic faith.

I apologize I don't think I was being snippy at all:confused3:confused3. I was responding to Candle. I'm happy he out and about. I think that great I don't see why you quoted me since I agree with everything you have said:confused3:confused3
