Pop Washer & Dryer Questions

I'm pretty sure I've read that Pop would have washers & dryers on-site that resort guests can use. I'm wondering if anyone has used these, and if so, what was the cost of each? And, do they seem to work pretty well? By that I'm asking, is one wash cycle, and one dry cycle going to do it with summer-type clothes? Or is it like the appliances we had in college, where the washer didn't really do much spinning, so you were stuck draining your quarters in the dryer for 3 or 4 cycles.

TIA

I thought they did a good job. Just one wash cycle and one dry. The dryers were actually pretty hot and took less time than my one at home. Maybe I just got lucky ;) . It cost $2 for a wash and $2 for a dry. Take plenty of quarters. :thumbsup2

They work fairly well. We had a couple things (mainly sweatshirts) that had to go through a second round in the dryer, but other than that everything went just fine.

Well, almost everything... my sister got bit by a tick when we were doing laundry and managed to get Lyme Disease from it, but we think that's just because she's prone to getting all sorts of weird diseases and in no way reflects the norm for Pop's laundry facilities. :lmao: She's just fine btw!!

This was our experience as well!

I used one wash cycle but I needed 2 drying cycles for some items (jeans and some thicker shorts and shirts).

Last time we used them was 2005, never had a problem except that a couple of dryers weren't working. I do agree that for some of the heavier items it may take 2 dryer cycles. Glad to get updated cost info though.

If I have heavy items I usually split up my stuff into two dryers per one load of wash. Takes the same amount of quarters as two cycles but less time! I have used the washers at Pop and every other WDW resort I have stayed at with good results. If you have a problem, they have phones in there, somebody will come right over and refund your money if you lost it (happened to me at CBR). They are always nice and clean too.

Here is a photo of the one at All Star Music, the Pop one looks the same:

I'll also add they have change machines and machines to sell soap and fab softner.

I haven't used the Pop dryers, but the ones at POR only gave us 20 minutes/$2 despite the posted sign saying 30 minutes. Having prior experience with WDW dryers, we put small loads in the dryers. Still, after 2 times around, things were a little damp. Like other guests using the laundry facilities last week when we were, we just hung a lot of these things on hangers and let them finish drying in our room. While it costs a small fortune to do laundry for a family of 5 at WDW, it's worth it to not have to bring so much "stuff" with us.

Thanks everyone. With a 2-month old, and myself and DS3 that are human furnaces that's what I was hoping to hear, so we don't have to pack so much stuff. I'm already not too thrilled about when we're at the airports lugging around 2 car seats, 2 strollers, our luggage, a diaper bag, and camera bag, so just hoping to eliminate some luggage.

Just don't plan on doing laundry immediately after park closing (evening). Last October, I was fortunate to start my laundry a little earlier, but the air was rather blue with language from those who expected to leave a park and do laundry immediately! A lot of people had the same idea! :D

I used them last Oct and they did great. Take quarters, I think there is a change machine.:goodvibes

Yes, their is a change machine -- for $1s, 5s (and I think 10s).

When I went to wash at Pop Century a couple weeks ago, several people had left their open containers of laundry deterent for others to use (I guess they were leaving).

Also, watch for people that remove their laundry from the dryers before the time in up. I managed to get 1 load of my clothes almost completely dried on Free Time.

What would you think the best time to do laundry is???

I did laundry while we were at the pool since it was right there. Usually it was early afternoon, and never had a problem with finding empty washers and dryers.

My little trick to understanding the best time to do laundry was simply this ...

For the first few days after arrival (when I didn't need to do laundry), I'd keep an eye on how busy the laundry room was every time we walked by. I'd just poke my head in and see how many machines were in use etc.

By the fourth day, I had a pretty good idea that certain times were better than others and THAT is when I did my loads. :)

Tip (for those on a budget): I purchased the individual boxes of Tide detergent before I left (maybe 2-3 boxes), that way I didnt have to pay the over priced dispenser price. :laundy:

A better tip Don't use the ones by the main pool. This goes for All-Stars too. Use the ones by the quiet pools. Everyone uses the washers by the main pool. When we stayed 6 nights at Movies I went to the main pool's laundry mat and there were people waiting to use the washers with a ton of clothes. I went and walked to the Mighty Ducks building and there were washers and dryers not being used.
At Pop the quiet laundry mat is by the 50's pool.

As for laundry detergent we bring ours in zip lock bags. 1 scoop per bag. pennies as oppose to dollars.

I must remember to try the 50s pool laundry then. Does anyone remember when they open in the morning?
