Pop Warner

I just read something about Pop Warner being at Disney during a time we thought was the least crowded. We are somewhat concerned. This would be Dec 4-11. Am I correct? Do you think it will ba a mad house?

I have asked this before and the response I got was basically that they will not impact the parks too much, but if you are at one of their resorts (AllStars and Pop, sometimes overflow into POR and CB) you will notice their presence. Lots of preteen boys and cheerleaders everywhere. There were some problems with them last year being rowdy and such from what I read.

Check out Pop Warner's website. You can go to their message boards and see some discussions, but very few right now. I don't think they have blocked the rooms yet. I called Disney a few months ago and they said they usually don't block their rooms until around Thanksgiving.

We were there in March with a bunch of cheerleaders and they were annoying, but not too bad.

Seems like Disney is trying to "fill in" times of the year where crowds are normally lighter. You are right, about that time of the year being a less crowded time. This pop warner thing might be new, I don't recall hearing about it before. There is a thread about cheerleading on this board called: Cheerleaders OH NO! Check it out, and you will read first hand regarding cheerleading, which is apparently a big part of pop warner. Many people are not happy with the cheerleading situation.

I was there the last 2 or 3 years during Pop Warner and it doesn't affect the parks much. It's not a very crowded time, especially during the week. We stayed at Boardwalk Villas, so it wasn't an issue at the resort.

We stayed at AKL last year during Pop Warner. No issues there. The only thing my DD and I got tired of was the cheerleading girls that were traveling with them in the parks. Also, we weren't happy when they decided to close MGM on a Friday night, and we had to rework a couple of nights of our dining reservations and park schedules for our short trip.

We're having a problem with that this year. We're going for the weekend for dd's 6th birthday, which is Sun. Dec. 11th. We are having some family members fly down from Nebraska and Iowa to meet us there, none of them have ever been to WDW before. I had planned MGM for Fri. night because my Fil and Sil aren't arriving until around noon on Friday, I wanted to do CP on Sat. night (my Fil wants a full day at Epcot), and we already have tickets to MVMCP for Sun. night. We don't have hopper tickets, so can only do one park per day (boy do I miss my AP! ) If they close the park early on Fri. that means that all of the people with me will only have a couple of hours at MGM but use a whole day of their ticket....any idea when the definate info on the closing time will come out????

I was called by Dining in Oct. for our Friday, Dec. 10, 2004. They closed the park at 6 PM. That was our MGM day too (we still went for the day and had dinner later elsewhere). We wanted to have dinner there and see the Osborne Lights. They moved the dinner for that night to another night, met us at the gate to get us into the park for free so we would not have to use a ticket, and they even offered us seats for Fantasmic (which we declined since we had a holiday caggiage ride to go to at WL).

I'd make my plans (and a back up plan), check with Disney dining, read postings here, and see if there is any information on Pop Warner's web sites if you can locate them, and hope for the best. Good luck.

Thanks for the info! We're only going down for the weekend so I don't think that the offer of coming back to MGM would work for us either. I'm just kinda bummed because I really wanted them to see Fantasmic. Oh, well, just gives them a reason to come back I guess!
