Pop Warner Strategies

Be not afraid :thumbsup2 I have stayed on property many many times over the years when this group has been here. They are the most supervised and well behaved kids I have ever had the pleasure to share space with. Chaperones act the way chaperones should. I wish I could say that about all youth groups but I honestly can't.

so true!

we used to visit that week every year. Other than the naturally exuberant cheerleaders breaking into chants non-stop, my main complaint was how they would congregate in the food court area to socialize. Not eating, just hanging out, but made it difficult to grab a table at times.

only think I noticed when staying @ POR-FQ several years ago when it was the designated mod was the hot-tub and pool were more very heavily utilized in the afternoon by the parents.

I'm a past Pop Warner Cheer dad - went from 2009 - 2012. Most of the cheer teams stay at the Moderates and the Values are mostly taken up by Football. Generally, the cheer teams come with parents for each girl - the football teams generally come with a few chaperones to manage the whole team (though that isn't always the case).

Disney requires the teams to stay at the resorts but does not require them to get park tickets. Consequently, some of the football teams from lower income areas only get to hang out at the ESPN center, the resort and HS on the party night.

You will not see many packs of football players in the parks at all. You will see groups of girls wearing the same t-shirts and lots and lots of hair bows.

Pop Warner enforces a 10pm curfew for participants and we always have a bed check at 9:45.

Even though we usually tack on a few days after the event, a lot of girls go home the same day as competition or next morning. During the lead up to the cheer competitions the teams are required to have daily practice - usually in the morning, so no rope drop. Our teams were never allowed to swim before competition either.

A word about the parents (I think they are a bigger problem than the girls). While some families really enjoy Disney, there are groups that aren't necessarily fans or would never go on their own and end up parking themselves at the pool bars most of the day and push parenting off on the coaches. Obviously, if you aren't at a Pop Warner hotel you won't notice.

There was a group of cheerleaders at AK on Saturday who were easily the most obnoxious group of humans ever assembled. I don't know if they were Pop Warner because they were an Argentinian group (not sure if it's international). They chanted nonstop everywhere they went. I mean nonstop and you could hear them everywhere. They would block entire sidewalks to stop and do dances. I was watching an animal training session and they had to stop it and send a cast member over because they were screaming nonstop. The "adult" chaperones apparently thought this was cute because it kept going until nearly closing. It was kind of funny to hear people's reactions once you heard them approaching. "Oh no!" "Leave!" "Not again!". Oh well, I guess they were having fun.

It is not. the South American youth groups are pretty ubiquitous because they are one of the groups that WDW is trying hardest to bring in.

Not cheerleaders. Those would be the infamous South American tour groups. Aren't they charming?
