I have ressies with free dining booked for 1/29-2/4/12 for me, DH, and our twin sons 6yo - turning 7yo on our trip. It is our first trip to WDW.

I liked Pop b/c of the fun theme for the kids. But now I am considering POFQ. The difference in price is minimal - @ $200.00. I'd appreciate any and all thoughts on this. Should i change or should i stay????

THANKS!!

Main differences:

Theme
POFQ has queen beds, Pop has doubles.
POFQ has a min fridge and coffeemaker, Pop has neither.
POFQ rooms are 316 sq ft, Pop rooms are 265.
POFQ has a hot tub, Pop does not.
POFQ has one pool, Pop has three.
POFQ's pool has a slide, none of Pop's do.
POFQ has boat transportation to DTD, Pop does not.
Staying at POFQ enables you to use the pool at POR.

So are queen beds, more square footage, a mini fridge, coffeemaker, hot tub, slide at the pool, and boats to DTD worth the $200 to you?

If you like the theme both places, then that's the decision you have to make.

I personally prefer POFQ because I like the theme, decor, and atmosphere better. The additional amenities aren't really important to me.

Theme
POFQ has queen beds, Pop has doubles.a definite plus but alone not a reason to change.
POFQ has a min fridge and coffeemaker, Pop has neither. i'd have a fridge at pop for medical reasons. coffeemaker nice but again not a reason to change
POFQ rooms are 316 sq ft, Pop rooms are 265. another plus
POFQ has a hot tub, Pop does not. another plus
POFQ has one pool, Pop has three. not a deal breaker
POFQ's pool has a slide, none of Pop's do. i think one of my sons would LOVE the slide
POFQ has boat transportation to DTD, Pop does not. another plus

I'm going to have to weigh it all. Gonna try and get some input from DH and see what he says. Thanks.

I'm not interested in free dining, so haven't paid that much attention, but don't you get counter service free dining a the values and the regular DDP at the moderates? That's be enough reason to upgrade.

yes that is correct and the 200 price difference accounts for that. Upgrade to ddp with pop is @ 16 per day per adult and 3 per day per child

I love the theming at the POR resorts. Beautiful landscapping, and enjoy the walks along the river. It's also quieter.
You have 2 resorts with FQ. You can also go over to Riverside. I love the food court at Riverside- the make your own pasta bar is yummy.
Also love the evening entertainment in the lounge. Both FQ & Riverside have this.
For that small price, it would be a no brainer for me!

Because of the age of the kids, I'd definitely go with POP and upgrade to regular DDP, if you need to. We love POFQ and DD6 loves the pool, however overall she would prefer POP to POFQ. She's been at almost all of the resorts and AKL is her favorite. Out of the Mods, she prefers POFQ because she likes getting the beads. At Values, she prefers ASMo. If that's not available, she prefers POP instead of the other All-Star resorts. This is our perspective via our DD6 (turning 7 this month:banana:).

Reservation changed from Pop to POFQ and I think it will be great. Although my kids do not know about our trip, I have told them we are going when they are 8 (in 2013) so I can feel free to talk to them about WDW or read books about it without them being suspicious. I mentioned POFQ's theme (coincidentally I was just in New Orleans for my first business trip since the boys were born) and they seem excited about it. The fishing hole at Riverside and the water slide at POFQ are big selling points. So, I think the change will be a good one for us.

Thanks for all of the responses!!

Good choice!

I will add that POFQ is a much smaller resort overall (yes, it has bigger rooms & more amenities, but much fewer people). I tend to like this a lot! I feel too congested at the value resorts... lots of people... food court is really busy... I've always enjoyed POFQ for more relaxation and less chaos.

Have a superb trip! :goodvibes

Very good points here. POFQ has way more perks and is much nicer than POP. On our last trip I asked my son between the two which he prefers, and he still prefers POP over POFQ/POR. He likes POP cause of the theme and arcade....he doesnt care much about the pool slide. I personally like POR/POFQ better because of the queen beds (even thou its just us 2), the boat, better food court & pool, and cause its prettier/nicer overall. Since i couldnt decide between the two, i did a split stay. that way we're both happy! Lol.

If the price difference is minimal, I would go with POFQ to be honest. But if you want their first trip to be extra special, why not let the boys decide?

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 My 5 yo triplets call POR home. They were very disappointed this past August, for a few days, when we stayed at AS movies because we weren't staying home LOL

I think the adults will be much happier at POFQ and the kids won't know much of a difference. We are two adults and felt out of place at values - chaotic, crowded, family oriented. Moderates are still family oriented of course but it just has a different vibe that is more relaxing for adults. Enjoy! :thumbsup2

I've stayed at both resorts and would pick POFQ, hands down. Paying an additional $200 for a stay at WDW is a lot of money for many guests, but I feel the difference in cost more than justifies the cost of staying at POFQ as opposed to POP. The amenities offered at a moderate resort are better than a value, (better themed rooms/common areas and small fridges in each room), and the free dining at mods. offer the opportunity of TS, such as character dining. I personally, LOVE all that POFQ has to offer and would stay there before booking a room at some Deluxes.
