We absolutely do not use Pop up ads. If you recieve a pop up while browsing our pages it is because your computer has a virus trojan or other infection. If you do get one I would like to hear about it, please email me and include what link it took you too and if you ran adaware or spybot what infection it said you had.
Thanks!

Alex, I get popups all the time here on the DIS. It keeps telling me that I have a new private message. So annoying! ;):smooth:

:jester: :jester: :jester:

But what about this WDWInfo site popup <a target="_blank" href='http://www.wdwinfo.com/newsroom/newsheadlines.htm' onclick='javascript:alert("Alex, Made you look!")'>here!</a>

Alex I just cleaned one out a few weeks ago. I believe it was called Downloader.trojan. It took me forever as it was buried deep in the registry. NAV, Spybot & Ad-Aware could not get rid of it. I believe I was last on a site about Disney music when it started. I can't say what site it sent me to because my popup blocker killed it but I knew it was doing it because I would see the tray icon flash. I also knew it wasn't your site because it was only happening on this PC.

Hope this helps.

I've run Spybot and Ad-aware SE, but maybe I need to run them or something else again. Still getting pop-ups, but it seems to be just when I first log on to the DIS, and usually it is just one pop-up. The latest one took me here: http://www.orbitz.com/App/GetDealsDetailsContent?deal_id=hotel&semsource=goto&semkeyword=hotel+room .

I've also gotten pop-ups for hotels.com. Also occasionally get a pop-up (I guess) that makes it look like I did some sort of hotel or travel search (which I have not). It says "Search Results - Microsoft Internet Explorer" and gives me a list of websites to go to (including orbitz, expedia, hotels, cheaptickets, travelzoo, marriott, and choicehotels.com). In fact I just got that one again.

I've also noticed that I get similar pop-ups when I go www.mousesavers.com. They also don't use pop-up advertisements. Somehow I'm marked as a travel junkie .

Make sure you have 'updated' both Spyware and Adaware to use the newest scanning list. If after you do that the scan still come back ok and you still have the problem, you've got something much worse....

What I am going to suggest to you is a little more difficult that just running the spybot and adaware but CAN and WILL find and remove spyware that is lurking on your machine that others cannot find.

It's a nifty little program called "HijackThis". It was written by a guy that got sick and tired of hijackings and wanted to provide a way to identify how you are infected and correct it. You can download it at:

http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/

or

http://216.180.233.163/~merijn/index.html

This software will identify all running processes on your machine, everything that gets run at bootup, toolbars that have been installed - all kinds of really detailed geek stuff. It will create a 'log'. Then you go to this Web Forum:

http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

and post your log. Guys that know everything about computers being hijacked will tell you exactly what to do to get rid of the garbage. I myself had to resort to this to clean up a friends machine recently.

It may seem scary, but you can do it.

Good luck!

Thanks, Jeff. Towncrier had mentioned Hijack This to me, but I haven't tried it yet. Sounds like that's what we probably need to do. I'll update y'all later after we try that.

Ugh! Haven't noticed pop-ups here but have other places. I've run Norton, SpyBot, Panda, and Ad-aware. Most of them catch it, but none of them delete it! Trojan name is Downloader-JM.

Jeff
Thanks for thoes links, I will have my husband check them out.
I have been having problems with my computer and nothing seems to be helping. We could run Ad-aware and spybot all day long and I still have infections. As Krista TX said most pop ups are stoped but sometimes one or two will get through and they are the same ones she is getting.

The best thing I ever did was to download a new browser. IE is so vulnerable to attacks.

Get mozilla or opera and use that while you're trying to clean up IE. Both mozilla and opera have pop-up blockers built in them.
Even if IE is clean, I would still have a backup browser.

One time, my IE registry got so screwed up I couldn't even open IE at all. It was a good thing that I had netscape and was able to use netscape to redownload and reinstall IE again.

Now I'm exclusively on Mozilla Firefox and Opera and to this day, I do not worry about spywares or hijackings anymore.

Another thing to remember, read the dialog boxes carefully! Don't just click no to anything, because they might just be the reverse. You think you're saying no to a spyware when in fact you're saying yes to it.
