We are staying at Pop in June:cool1:
We decided not to have a preferred room, as it is just two adults. I am just curious what the experience has been for those who did not stay in a preferred room (which I believe is the 70's, 80's, and 90's buildings right?) Is going to Everything Pop a pain? How about the distance to the buses? More importantly, did you like your stay? I'm not really concerned or anything lol, just interested in others experience :)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...I prefer the standard rooms at POP. My favorite room was in the 60's section, 4th floor, facing the lake. Very quiet and peaceful..quite pretty to look at. The walk to the food court and buses was about 3-4 mins, depending on how fast you walk. And, I usually used the stairs when I left my room but the elevator going back up to it at night.
Even my rooms in the 50's section, in bldg 2, were wonderful. A bit longer walk to the food court but nothing awful.

Hi - we stayed in the 90's (2 adults 2 kids)

I actually requested the 60's but did not get it, not the end of the world though.

So, to answer your questions:

"Is going to Everything Pop a pain?" - not everything, I liked it. The noisy door slamming at midnight guests were a pain though. I got them back with an early wakeup and a slam of my own. :)

The walk from the buses seemed long, especially at the end of the day when you are exhuasted out of your skull.

The one thing I hated was the walk from the bus stop to the entrance at epcot. That walk was insanely long.

Yes we enjoyed our stay, it was awesome.

What I DO recommend is top floor, not facing the pools.

We have stayed in the 70's and 80's. We liked the 80's better. It wasn't a very long walk to Everything Pop. And we would walk across the parking lot to the buses. It actually seamed faster then walking from the 70's buildings.

My DH and I stayed in a 70s building (the one with the Mickey phone), and it was a short walk to Everything POP and the bus stop. It was a long walk to the 50s pool, but we only used it one time since we preferred the closer pools.

We loved POP! Our stay was fun, but relaxing. We requested a room with a lake view, and it was nice and quiet. We are now DVC members, but I would definitely stay at POP again in a heartbeat. We liked it soooo much better than ASMusic.

my girlfriend and i stayed at pop. we had paid for a standard room, but when we check in we were given a ground level room in the 50s section, building two, facing the parking lot. it was a inner corner room, we had the ice machine on the other side of our wall. but you'd never know it.

we would occasionally hear flip flops in the hallway, but it was never annoying. we would hear the occasional door slam, or toilet flush - but nothing that would set off my short fuse.

we walked all over pop, it's not a pain at all. granted, we were on the ground - so our walk to the bus was roughly 4 minutes away.

my only complaint was the shower curtain. it had black mold growing on the top of it. a quick call to house keeping and that was fixed by the time we returned to our room after a day at the park.

we enjoyed it so much we'll be going back there in october!

good choice!

:lovestruc We are very excited about our upcoming trip!! I think we chose the right place to go! Sounds good so far

We love the POP and never do a 'preferred' room. I, personally, would rather have the money for other things. We usually request build 3 (50's) top floor with the lake view...very quiet. I don't find the walk far at all....but that's just me! Hope you enjoy the POP as much as we, and so many others do!!:flower3:

We have stayed at Pop our last two trips - once on the ground floor in the 50's bldg - right outside the pool(Jan 2008), and last year in the #2 50's bldg, behind the jukebox on the 2nd floor(October 2009). We didn't have problems with excessive noise either time. The food court wasn't an extremely long walk, I think the walk is about the same from anywhere in the resort. We didn't get preferred rooms either time. The food court is awesome, and the bus transportation to and from the resorts has always been great.

You will find that Pop is ALWAYS the longest walk from any park you go to. Epcot seems to be the longest one by far, or it could be that is the park we do the most walking. That is frustrating, but honestly, at the end of a long day, every walk to the bus stops is a long one. Just hope you get a seat!

I hope you have a great time - be sure to come back and tell us how you liked Pop. There is a thread specifically for pop on the resorts board as well, if you have any other questions. It has a TON of information there. :beach:

We came back last week from our stay in the 70's building. For it not being a preferred room I couldn't believe how close it was to everything.

We stayed at Pop in March and had a preferred room 4th floor, building 6. That is the only time we ever stayed there so I can't compare it to a standard room, but our location was excellent. I didn't mind paying a little extra for it, I guess. We had a great time there!! What a fun place to be. No complaints whatsoever!! I am ready to go back NOW!!! :goodvibes

We stayed at Pop our first visit and did not have a prefered room. The walk was not bad, the only time we minded it was after we had spent the whole day in the park and wanted to refill our cups after we got back to our room!

This post has a map of the preferred room locations, which are in the 70s, 60s, and 50s buildings:

I've stayed at Pop twice with a third trip coming up, all in standard rooms. Last year I requested a ground floor and got a standard room in building 1 (50s) just steps away from preferred rooms, and really convenient to Classic Hall and the bowling pool. Hippy Dippy Pool was no issue to get to, either. To me being on the ground floor made the room location even more convenient, because you're not dealing with steps or elevators to get back and forth.

I'll just post the map here..

Yellow lines indicate areas with preferred rooms.

We stayed in a non-preferred room in Dec. Building 5 in the 60's section, facing the lake. PERFECT location. Very quiet, but a 3 minute walk to the main building. :)

On all of our visits we've never stayed in a preferred room. Our last visit was in the 80/90's. Really can't complain about the walk but we don't go back and forth. Usually just once in the AM and again in the PM. We walked across the 70's parking lot to the buses which was easy enough.

Since its just the two of you then request a king room. Theres not many of them but we've asked and gotten one every time.

Yeah, there is that. It is a hugely long walk. But....it isn't always the furthest away bus stop. At DHS and DTD POP has a fairly close to the entrance spot. At MK it's the pits...it's closer to the CR than it is to MK. And at AK, I can't really remember, but I know it's not particularly close by.

After staying at the Beach Club, I'm used to a walk to epcot lol. I think the maps make it look more vast than it actually is. We are pumped!!

As you can see on the map, there are standard rooms in all the buildings. We never pay for preferred, always request the 50's and have always gotten it. Usually ask for first floor facing the pool. The walk to Centennial Hall and to the bus stops is not far at all. I do agree the bus shelter at the MK is FAR from the front, but we have found the bus transportation to be terrific. Better than the Deluxes we have stayed at.
Enjoy!
