POP refurbed rooms with Flat Screens! Update Page 13 **

I was just there and had NO idea they were renevating anything while we were there. :)

We were in Building 6 and had a refurb room and it was great.

The day we arrived we had a LOT of water on the floor, though - I guess from the airconditioning unit - and I had housekeeping come and work on it. They must have gotten the water up, because I never smelled any mildew.

Ok, just caught up - 40 pages later!!!! We're going late August and had requested 50's building, lake view facing Epcot, 4th floor, adjoining rooms. I don't mind if I get unrenovated because we were there last August and I thought the rooms were just fine. In fact, I'm very nervous with the reduction of storage space b/c I have 4 kids and I had "stuff" everywhere last time. Plus, I prefer softer beds so the talk of hard beds makes me nervous. But, my real question is the noise level from this remodeling. According to the timeline, it appears to be starting in my building (assuming I get my request) while I"m there. Is the renovation loud? is the paint smell obnoxious? Thanks!

No paint smells for us but we could hear them working on the floor below us. It was nothing too annoying but if you are a light or late sleeper it may be an issue.

We were below the rooms being renovated and only once heard them. We were back in the room for a break/nap and right as we were crawling into bed, the workers knocked something over above us. We heard a "clang!" type of sound. I looked at DH and he looked at me and we thought "great...we aren't going to get any sleep". 5 minutes later, we were both passed out (the kids were already asleep) and that was it.

As for the smell, we didn't smell anything in our room...BUT, when we were in the 3rd floor room, we did smell paint. I'm not sure if that was from the renovations happening on the 2nd floor, or if it was residual smell from the room being freshly renovated. The smell wasn't too bad, but we did notice it when walking in. Hope that helps!

Got back yesterday and they were working on building 10 first floor while we were there.

They aren't doing structural work so there shouldn't be too much noise involved.
We had a refurbed room in building 6 on the 4th floor toward the end and it was very quiet. I had to ask a nice older lady to stop smoking on the balcony. The vent pulled it right in and filled our room with the smoke. She apologized and didn't do it again.
I really think they need signs because people just don't know.
The resort was nice and I will likely stay there again.

We just got back from POP a few hours ago. Building 10 was complete and housekeeping was putting things together. We were in building 5 and walked by building 10 on the way to the parking lot every day. It was amazing to see the amount of work they accomplished in such a short period of time. When we arrived on the 9th they were on the second floor and a few days later the first. As I stated when we left this morning we were told housekeeping would be putting the rooms together and they would open them to guests. It appeared there was a team assigned to complete each room. If you didn't look for them, you would have never known they were there. I was looking in the rooms last night and they looked fabulous.

Thanks for the great info!:worship: We will arrive at POP on the 23rd and are really hoping for a refurbed room. I requested building 6, but if we don't get that I will ask for 10.:)

Thanks for posting this! This is just the info I was looking for! I'm going to ask for Building 6, lakeside, adjoining my BFF's room. I want a refurbed room. I can't help it--I want "new" on vacation; I live in an old house.

Hope your trip was magical. :tink:

I'm going to POP first time in oct. so I don't know the lay out. I have requested 50's section preferred room is this anywhere near the buildings you are talking about?:yay::woohoo:

50's bldgs are on the opposite side of Classic Hall from where the 70's rooms are. There are maps showing the layout on the first page of the main POP thread that you can look at.

As the PP stated the 50's buildings are # 1, 2, and 3 on the opposite side where they were working on the rehab. From earlier info, I believe the 50's are next with the 60's the last to be completed. From what I saw, it looks like it takes 5-6 days per floor

I tried searching through this thread (very quickly, unfortunately) and I couldn't find the answer so please forgive me if this has already been covered. Are they refurbishing all the rooms at POP or just certain buildings and when is construction supposed to completed?! TIA!!:thumbsup2

Yes, all the rooms are supposed to be redone eventually, and there is a schedule on page 13 or 14, but I think you have to consider schedules can change.

Looks like the 70s, 80s, and 90s are done or are being worked on now. The 50s are next, with the 60s being the last area to be refinished. My guess is that the 60s are the most popular buildings so they'll do those in the middle of winter.

Yes, we had a great time. The food court is awesome. 1000% better than POFQ. I will never go back there the food was so awful! We were in the wing that sticks out toward the lake but facing the 60's building, does that make sense? The elevators were super fast and were never an issue. It was less than 2 minutes to walk from the room to the main building. Have fun!

the pics look great. although i like the print on the old comforter better.
We're going in late Sept. do you think all the rooms will be done by then?
:)

I think it was posted here at one time that they are going to take time off so it might be done by the end of the year or into next year.

Which buildings have been done or are in the works? My fav is the 50's building,I hope there done by Sept., but if not oh well I'll most likely ask for that section anyway!! ;)

we stayed in a refurbed room in building 6. it was very nice. i haven't stayed there before, so i don't have anything to compare it too. but i love having the privacy curtain by the sink area--it's nice to get ready while the kids still doze.

all in all, our visit last week to pop was great! the rooms were clean. we were on the back side of building 6, with a water view. so, it was a fairly quiet spot (although, the walls are thin and you can hear other showers, bathrooms, etc.).

the food court is awesome--a great variety and selection!

i would definitely stay there again. and i'm normally a Mod girl! my kids loved it!

I'm in the same boat as you....I'm going in September and I like the 50's section as well....at this point, it can go either way because that is the time that they will be working on the 50's building (assuming the schedule stays on track.)

My son just told me that he wanted to stay in the 90's this time! We have stayed in the 50's and 60's ! So now we are gonna try for poolview grndflr
90's! Maybe we'll get our request since no one seems to want 90's ! We stayed there for one night in the 90's our very first stay! We didnt think it was a bad walk at all to the buses or main lobby!;)
