POP Question - Bathroom "Bars"?

Hi,
I've had 2 knee replacements in the last 15 months (and thank goodness I only have 2 knees!) We visited WDW last December and stayed at the Pop - Preferred Room in the 50's building. Although not requested, this room had bars next to the toilet that helped me immensely. I'm tall too begin with, but since my surgeries, toilets seem even lower than ever before. :worried:

We're going again in November. We booked a Preferred Room but last week, when the discount codes came out, I got a call from our TA who said she could save us almost $400 but that all of the Preferred Rooms were already gone and would we take a Standard Room? Hey, $400 isn't pocket change around here and I accepted the Standard Room.

Now for my questions (finally): is it possible to get a standard room with these bars for the toilet and how would I go about asking for it? I don't need anything special as far as the tub is concerned, but those bars made my life so much easier. Second question: we originally reserved a Preferred Room because of it's closeness to the foot court and buses. Can I request a room (now Standard) as close as possible to the food court, etc?

I'll either be walking on my own by then or using an EVC again. Either way, I'd prefer not to too far away from everything.

I am SO looking forward to this trip - it's to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary!

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

First of all, your TA "owns" the reservation and Dinsey will not talk to you directly. So everything has to go through the TA.

What you need is an accessible room with grab bars at the tub and toilet and a raised toilet. There are two type of accessible rooms, the other type has a roll-in shower instead of a tub (and also a raised toilet).

You can ask your TA to contact Special (Medical) Reservations at 407-939-7807 to modify your reservation. Also, your TA can do it as a conference call with you also on the line.

HEY!! I know you!!!!! How are you??? LTNS!

There's a whole row of those type of rooms at Pop that aren't preferred rooms. I've stayed in them many times. They ARE closer to the parking lot than the bus stop, but we always have a car so it doesn't matter.

Good to "E" you again!

"Grab Bars"....how hard can that be to remember????? And yet I forgot! Yet another example of a mind being a terrible thing to lose.

An email has been sent to my TA asking her to take care of this. She's terrific and I'm expecting to hear from her in the next couple of days.

Thank you for your help, Cheshire.

:wave2: Hi Momelie! I'm doing fine. You? It's amazing how many folks from the old OTWA that I've run into on different web sites. :crowded: Of course it helps when we all use the same screen names no matter where we go.

I'm hoping that once we get down there and are checking in, I might be able to charm the CM into giving us a room that's NOT quite so close to the parking lot!
