I am struggling to choose between Pop and POR, I keep going back and fourth. I would be happy with either, there is a £900 difference, pop comes with free breakfast, POR with the quick service and $200 gift card. we struggled on the regular dining plan with food but may find quick service ok just can't handle all the desserts ;-) split stay is not an option as we have booked a few nights down treasure island at the end of the holiday and don't fancy packing up again x

I'd do POR because I think it's got a great pool and the resort grounds are my favourite. Including the deluxe resorts grounds. Not sure I'd do it for the free QS though as I'd be minded to keep the £900 cash and have more options. That said, proximity to two pretty decent food courts at POR and POFQ would make the QS plan very doable staying there. POR allowed me to have bottled water instead of the desert when we stayed there but I know you can't always rely on them doing the same things like that. The other thing is the additional storage space and double sinks. POP looks like a fun resort too though and £900 is a sizeable lump of money when all is said and done.....

As POR includes the gift card ($200~£120) it means POR is only £780 more or £45 per night (assumed 17 nights) which is about $77 a day.

$77 is about $19 per person which is more than the cost of a CS meal each.

Therefore Pop will be cheaper but I would still pick the mod as I prefer them :goodvibes

I can understand your struggle. If I didn't always stay at POR then I would be very tempted to POP. I Think the food court at POP is excellent and POR/FQ are also good so nothing in that respect. BUT POR has far more pools to chose from and you can use POFQ one. The ground at POP are just brightly coloured concrete where as POR has the prettiest grounds of all the resorts with lots of greenery...Then the other massive plus point is the boat to DTD. The rooms are also bigger with bigger beds.
I'd go for POR personally.:goodvibes

Appreciate your honest opinions. We have just come back from SSR and absolutely loved it and I am thinking that POR is fairly similar in regards of beautiful landscaping and possibly not as noisy as POP? I am just a big kid at heart and love the theming of pop. We will want to eat at one or two table service restaurants so thought we could use the $200 gift card towards that. Only thing putting me off POR is people saying the main pool is very crowded and no sun beds and we are going peak time but I like the fact it has the towels and the life jackets which were used daily when we were staying at POR ... Why are there so many to choose from, even thought about CBR and CSR as these are only £700 more than POP ... I am going to be quiet now as I am just confusing myself further, Ha!

CSR would get my vote ;)

If you stay at Pop you won't be tied to eating your meals on Disney property as you will only have breakfast credit - so maybe a bit more freedom in that sense. I love the OTT Disney theming :)

As mentioned above POR has less concrete, nicer grounds and a bigger room space. The main pool does tend to get crowded, our DD actually preferred to use a quiet pool which was nowhere near as busy.

I have stayed at POR three times during August. I have never not been able to find a sun bed. The pool is certainly busy but we've never not had enough space. The quiet pools at POR are actually really nice too though and not anywhere near as crowded. Never actually stayed at POP so can't compare pool crowd levels. The bar is nice at POR ;)

i am all booked, i couldnt bare the tension :rotfl:
16 nights at POR, 3 nights at Treasure Island, we will still do a few table services but we can spilt if we are not that hungry which we couldnt do on the regular plan and any credits left over we will grab some fruit/sandwiches to take to Treasure Island ... I am so excited, DH is fed up of me going on already :lmao:

Good for you. When do you go? Again. Lol!!!

We are going just before Easter 19th March - 7th April, had an amazing price on flights with Virgin and couldnt say no. We had planned to go back to Lara Beach in Turkey :confused3 No comparison!

Good for you, I am sure you'll have a great time.

We are going to Pop on 9th Sept for 21 nights, my granddaughter is absolutely buzzing. We went there in 2012 when she was four and we liked it so much we decided to go back there :)

I've been to both and loved both but I think you have made the right choice POR was beautiful and I think will become our resort of choice for future visits.
Out of interest do you mind me asking how much you paid for flights at that time of year??

Of course not, 2a 2c £1,900 from Manchester with Virgin using miles plus money x

POR is great, and don't worry about crowded pools and loungers, if POR is too busy, you CAN go to POFQ and use the pool there. Port Orleans R/FQ share pools. It's a very short walk between the two resorts (you can even take the boat).
POR has quiet pools too.

Good question. I usually stay at POR, but, just did Pop and loved it so much I changed my October reservation for POFQ to Pop and saved £810 (they took £35 in a fee so it would have been closer to £850 difference) Look at it this way, with free breakfast the dining plan will be less, get your calculator out and work out how much PO is with free DDP and how much Pop will be with the paid for DDP, to work out how much $200 is in ££ divide 200.00 by 1.64 this give you a near approximation, add that on to the Pop price and see if you are willing to pay the extra for PO. I did that and I could pay for the dining and still have several hundred pounds left over for spending as the dining and tickets came to under £500, this is with Travelcitydirect, they are very reasonable, cheaper than VH even though VH own them . PO is gorgeous, but, the Pop foodcourt is infinitely better that FQ foodcourt and I can't see me going back anytime soon as I cannot justify paying the extra for PO.
As a footnote. My main concern had been with buses, but, I found Pop better for that. At PO there is no queuing system, everybody just mills around and people who have just turned up can manage to get on the buses before people who been waiting for 20 minutes and apart from MK the buses do both resorts so it stops at five stops, which can be a real pain at the end of an exhausting day PORS is also very spread out, but, the walk to the main building is pretty. Pop has a separate stop for each park and proper queuing, and only one stop which I thought was brilliant. I also found the CMs much friendlier too. Both resorts are equally well located for the parks too.

Just spotted what you said about desserts, I found that too,I'm an AP holder so couldn't get the dining with the package as I've done in the pastwhen I've done packages with tickets included. I went last month not doing it as a package and I ate a lot less than if I had the DDP and spent less as I'd bought snack, water and breakfast items from Garden Grocer and that saved a heck of a lot of money. I bought the mug ($20 with taxes) and that was great value as I took it with me when I went resort hopping and on the Boardwalk where you have unlimited free refills. I got my money's worth by the second day.

the OP has already booked POR.:)

you may remember that i'm more than willing to spend money to avoid things (as in, i would never ever fly US Airways, no matter how cheap a flight they might offer me).

but in this case, i probably would go with pop century.
we've stayed at both (por when it was still called dixie landings)..
we stayed at POR about 4 times (each time for 3 weeks) - so i definitely like it there.

But more recently we've picked pop simply because it was cheaper and that was fine with me. i didn't really notice it being noisy at all.

We stayed in the 70's where it was nice and quiet. and ate during weird times, so it wasn't crowded in the food court.
from what i understand, you can use that breakfast credit in the parks (and apparently not just for breakfast - it's treated as a quick service meal - at least that's what i was told).

anyway, i'd pick pop.

as for my on property favorite? the grand floridian.
second favorite? wilderness lodge.

but the last time i stayed at either of them was about 6 years ago.

since then it's been mostly pop. (and one time at art of animation).
