Hi everyone. This is my first post to the disboards. However, I'm a WDW veteran!

I have a question. My family used to go to WDW every year for our family vacation. My last trip was in 1996 right before I went off to college. My boyfriend and I are going to WDW for 4 days in September. I have been spoiled through my childhood by staying at the Poly, and GF when I was there with my parents. As much as I'd love to, my BF and I can't exactly afford those luxuries this time around so we are going with a value resort. I am wondering of the value resorts, which one would be recommended. I am trying to narrow down to all star music and POP Century. I'm wondering if POP would be a better choice simply because it is newer?

Any thoughts??? Thanks in advance!

We have stayed at both. We stayed at ASMusic last year and just returned from Pop 2 weeks ago. Except for us the busses were crowded last year at the ASMu (becasue they stopped there after the AS Sports) we would probably stay there over Pop. Don't get me wrong, we enjoyed the Pop, but it was noisy compared to the ASMu. I think that either choice is ok though and would not pick Pop just because it is new. Just my opinion.

Pop seemed way more fun/new/better food court/cleaner than ASM to us. Now this is just my humble opinion. My sons, aged 18, 14 and 9 loved it too.

I'm in a very similar situation. Have never stayed at a Value resort with the family and going now for the first time with my DBF. Seems like we are about the same age (graduated High School in 1996.) We will also be travelling in September (25th-Oct 1st.) We have chosen to stay at Pop. If you are going before us, let me know how it goes. Have a GREAT time! :)

Karen -- that's funny...I graduated in 1996 as well. It's wierd not knowing what to do. I've never had to actually plan the trip before since I always went with my parents. I am actually thinking, now, of upgrading to a moderate resort. I read somewhere on one of these boards that there is an offer for $79/night for the time period that we are going for (sept 4-8).

I'll be sure to post and let you know where we end up laying our heads and how everything is.

:)

Having stayed at both, my vote goes to Pop Century. The bus service and food court are excellent. There are lots of icons, photo ops, etc. The noise I read about didn't bother us. We heard doors slamming but we heard doors slamming at even the lux. resorts.

When we stayed at all Star Music, the bus was crowded as it picked up at ASSports first. Now, I stayed at ASSports about 4 times and like it a lot better than ASMusic because of the transportation.

Both hotels are nice but I rate Pop a little higher, thats just MHO. Whatever you decide, you won't be disappointed because you're at WDW!

Have you thought about the 5 + 2 deal? Are you able to stay for a whole week? If you would pay for one additional day you would get 2 more on top of it for free. With the 5 + 2 deal this is how it would break down for 2 adults Sept 4-11 (7 nights):

Pop century
Total= $1054 base price

Port Orleans French Quarter (supposedly no availability)
Port Orleans Riverside
Total= $1364 base price

Depending on what you are paying now, this may be a better deal, and you can stay longer :) You have to hurry, though, I think this deal is only good through today or tomorrow. As far as I know, this is the only special that has come out for September as of now. Someone correct me if I'm wrong :)

(The Pop rate is exact because that is what we are paying, the POR rate is from the WDW website.)

As much as I would love to stay a full week, we are just doing 3 days at WDW this year. My BF's parents live in Hernando, on the Gulf side of the state and we are actually visiting them for 5 days on the trip as well. Our total FLORIDA trip is 12 days: 2 driving (1 there and one back), 3 in WDW, 2 in Key West, and 5 in Hernando. BF has only had 2 (single day) experiences at WDW...I don't think he knows how much fun it really can be when you get to take in the whole experience. Not just a single day. So, this is my way of weaning him into it so that maybe next year we can do a full week!!!

The rate that I have right now for 3 nights at POP is $165. That's with the $49/night postcard rate. HOWEVER, I think I might upgrade to moderate for a little more.

I know!!!!! :Pinkbounc

The postcard actually came to my boyfriend at his apartment. He threw it at me and said -- "here, we should just stay on the property for this price" ...so I took advantage and called it in.

See, we weren't even going to stay IN WDW. We already had reservations at the Hampton Inn Maingate East. Which I was fine with (I really wanted to stay on the property but we were trying not too spend TOO much money on hotels) and we were getting that room for $76/night. The thought of having to spend another $50/night to stay on the property was not easy to swallow. So, needless to say when he got the postcard...I was in!!!! I'm so excited!
