Hi, I need your help again!
My DBF and I are going to wdw in Jan for 16 nights. We are from the uk, so its costing us loads just for flights. He wants to stay at POR or POFQ, but it means we wont have as much money to spend once we are there. Im happy to stay at POP or one of the allstars, but because they are value resorts, he thinks they won't be any good, and also be really crowded and full of children. Any help or advice much appreciated - is it worth paying $$$$$ more to stay at a moderate?
Thanks guys

Go for Pop! It is not any more full of children than any other resort and it is a great price. We stayed at a moderate this year and to me it wasn't worth it. It was quieter at night and the beds were more comfortable but the service wasn't better, it was worse in fact. Stay at Pop and request a room over looking the lake so it will be quieter.

Is your DBF a big sports fan?Perhaps if you stayed at All-Star Sports that would "lessen the blow" for him of not staying at a Moderate.I have only stayed at a Moderate one time.I stayed at Port Orleans-Riverside and it was wonderful, but the difference in price from All-Star Sports to Port Orleans -Riverside is just not worth it to me.I have stayed at All-Star Sports eight times and there are actually things I like about All-Star Sports BETTER than Port-Orleans Riverside.Believe me the extra money would really come in handy.:)

POP!!:cool1:

I love having ONE bus stop and not stopping at each individual All Star.

I did try ASMo last year so I can say that would be my deciding factor. The rooms are pretty much the same as is the food court and decor. Just really like that one bus stop.

We are going for 18 nights. I couldn't make up my mind if I wanted All Star Movies or Pop. I chose both! Can see both now and have no regrets!!!!

If you are looking at value resorts, I would stay at POP. I have stayed at both pop century and all star music, and i have loved POP both times i have stayed there. POP is the newest of the value resorts, and it has its own bussing system. The rooms are a pretty nice size. The first time there i stayed with my mom and my neighbor and her mom (all over the age of 18) and we were pretty comfortable. and that was for a full 7 nights. We had a room in the 90's building which wasnt too far from the busses or food court (if you cut through the parking lot) we were there in july and there were a lot of kids, but the resort has three pools to choose from, and the 90's building was pretty quiet. the hotel is also themed nicely. gives me more of a disney feel as compared to the moderates.

just this past may i stayed in POP again, with my boyfriend. we booked late so we were on a budget. once again we were in the 90's building. no complaints. in may it was a little less crowded than july, and that made it even more awesome.

i have also stayed in port orleans riverside. and we liked it there too. everything was a little more spread out, and walking back to the room at the end of the night was a little rough. very nice resort, though. and i would have no problem staying here again. the plus about the moderate is that there is more activity. some nights there is live entertainment, there are the water activities (paddle boats, sea raycers, etc) the pools are a little more themed, and the grounds are much bigger for strolling.

may 2008 we are staying at french quarter, just because i need a change of pace. we also have a little more time to pay for it, because we didnt book at the last minute.

my suggestion is to stay at POP if you want more money for the parks, because how often are you going to be in the room?

you guys are going to be there a while, so if room end entertainment are important then i would go for moderate.

it's going to be january, so that's a value season...in the US schools are just getting started in the second half of the school year, so you dont have to worry about there being much crowd.

any other questions i will try to help as much as i can.

I love the POP Century. In fact, I have stayed at All Stars and WL and would choose POP over both because I loved the 60's pool, music (beach boys) and poolside bar! (does All stars have that?)

Have fun!

I have stayed at POP twice and All Star Music twice, since they built POP I haven't gone back to All Star because I like POP much more.

I say pop. we go in february every year, so its not crowded, and the pop was great. in my personal opinion, the value resorts are better. A. they're the same size as the other hotels. B. Your paying extra for the moderate and deluxe for extra stuff you don't need

PoP

Another vote for Pop here :thumbsup2 We have stayed at AS Sport and Pop and definitely prefer the one bus at Pop. Have fun!!

If you don't want a resort full of children I suggest you try Vegas and skip Disney lol. :rotfl: Disney is all about the kids, including 6ft tall ones like me!!

I would evaluate how much time you think you will be at the resort. I was at Pop by myself in July '06 for 6 nights. I went to the parks at opening and I think only once did I return to the hotel before dinner. So, for that trip, Pop was perfect. Now, if you think you will be balanced between the resort and parks, I would go with a mod--at least for part of the trip. I remember being there thinking that the rooms were pretty small and I would hate to have to share it with another for more than a couple of nights.

I have been to WDW 13 times. When I go with my DGDs, we pick a value resort - simple because it's cheaper and the kids don't care one way or the other. When it's just me and DH we stay at a moderate, the Dolphin (Boardwalk area), or the properties on Hotel Plaza Blvd. just across the street from DD.
The DD resorts http://www.downtowndisneyhotels.com/ have a wonderful location. You can just walk across the road to DD! We have gotten great rates in three of these properties....Holiday Inn, Best Western (during a hurricane!), and the Grosvenor (which is a popular with UK visitors).
I just got home from a mega budget trip with my DGDs, staying 6 nights at POP. They are very small rooms, with very few amenities. If you want a nicer room, but still stay within your budget restrictions, there are lots of options...keep looking.
