will the fridges be replaced by april 2014? that's when we will be at Pop!!!

When Disney made the announcement about the fridge recall in July, they stated all should be replaced within 4 months. I believe there are only 4 resorts that are not 100% completed with Pop being one of them. I can't see a reason why they wouldn't be done by April 2014.:thumbsup2

Sorry you had a less than stellar checkin experience....there was no reason for the CM to have a bad attitude.

Regarding your room assignment...did you ask to speak with a supervisor. The front desk CMs don't have the authority to change room assignments on their own. They have to refer room request changes back to the room assigners. They along with the supervisors are the ones authorized to change room assignments. The CM helping you certainly could have checked with a room assigner or a supervisor for availability but she cannot make the actual change. Sounds like someone was having a bad day at work! ;)

.....agree with the "bad day" theory ...but absolutely NO justifying it, for a couple of reasons:

1). We were checking in at a bit after 10am ....so it hadn't been "a long day"

2). There was NO ONE there ....literally. When we check in to POP ...we usually get there about 11 or 11:30am (we drive from Jersey ...and get to POP after a stop-over ...this yr was in St. Augustine ...so we got there early). Usually when we go to the check in / front desk area ...it's buzzing with activity, people on lines, or waiting for DME bus to come, or heading to a park. It was like a ghost town when we got there this time ...as was the resort for most of the week. There was not more than 4 5 people waiting on any line. So, it's not as if she had been dealing with crowds that were "knocking the door down" and was overworked. She ...simply didn't care. In the past they have tried to work things out ...and would say, "Check in is not till 3pm ...so go to a park, eat lunch, go swimming, and we'll work it out and call you when we get a room ...or ...take this room today ...and we'll send people to move you to another room tomorrow". That is trying ...and if at least someone tried ...I wouldn't feel like they simply could not care less.

Oh! And ...to further verify the lower occupancy that I spoke of ...we were on the 2nd floor of Bldg 5 (Rm 5271)...and it was VERY quiet ....from the left of us ..and from the right of us ...because ...those rooms were vacant for the first 7 of our 9 day stay.

....a CM told me that the worst thing they did was open AoA ...because it cut into POP's 'business" ...even the bartender at Petals said that.

....just because I stay at a "value" resort ...it's no reason to short-change me on service, amenities, or plain old common polite behavior. It was a drastic detour from the service that I had come to expect at WDW ....and at POP specifically. I've seen this coming for a while ...I said (last year), that the fridges wouldn't work ...and they didn't (they are not fridges ...and they do not belong in cabinets ...they should have read the instructions before putting them in there. Heck, I read the instructions on-line last year after checking into POP and the dang thing wouldn't get my beer cold!! I told the concierge desk that ..and they said, "They're not really fridges ...they are more like coolers". )

...I can tell you ...when someone says that "You don't get a second chance to make a first impression" .......it is SO painfully true ...especially in the hospitality industry. That ONE check in counter interaction ...soured my feelings about the whole stay (and ...lugging ice to my Styrofoam cooler every day ...didn't help either)

Oh I don't excuse poor service for any reason and wasn't trying to make an excuse for them....
I also Know for fact that their attendance has been low pretty much all year. I have spent a good bit of time there this year since my DD became a CM. I developed some friendships with multiple CMs that are a bit 'higher up' at POP. We talk about a lot of different stuff...some things disney and some not disney. I have been there a couple of nights this year when POP was at 100% (marathon weekend in january) capacity but now adays, that is pretty rare! That used to happen a lot before AoA opened. There are still LOTS of POP CMs that LOVE their job and LOVE working that resort but it sounds like there are a few bad apples that are ruining it for the bigger batch which is such a shame! :( it's really a great resort!

Yes, it was very unexpected. I knew it was coming but didn't expect it until the end of October, beginning of October.

We are also doing the Halloween Party next Tuesday

Fantastic! We're doing the same party with some "found money" of our own. But shhhh, DH doesn't know yet ;)

Just booked our room at Pop for our mother/ daughter trip in October! Everyone here is asleep. Had to tell someone.

Hi!

I just read the problem with the fridges at the Pop. I called and the operator told me all rooms have refrigerators now.
My main concern is I am a Diabetic in need of insulin shots. I need it.
They used to give the fridge for free when I presented my letter and my diabetic studies. Do you know if you can still get?
Or will I get charged? :confused3

You won't get charged. All the rooms do have fridges, but most at POP (as far as I know) still have the "do not use" tags on them. The problem was a single fire that resulted from one of that particular model (it wasn't even at WDW, I believe), so they are changing them out. The process is ongoing.

They did have a number of working fridges reserved for medical purposes, so there's a good chance you'll be able to obtain one of those at the very least.

But either way you won't be charged for it.

My magical bands are now being customized and will shp soon. Woo hoo. So when should I get them

I totally agree with this. We all choose a resort based on the information that is made available by the resort. I was so happy to hear that the values now had fridges as we always rented one in the past and now I didn't have to think about it. And all the food areas should be open no matter what. I could understand if there were two areas that sold similar products but not if the food is completely different.

When do you typically receive your mickey mail, like magical express tags etc? We are 39 days out from out trip. I cant wait to open the mailbox and discover it has made it lol

Around 30 days....sometimes a little before. I'm at 31 days and I've seen others arriving on Oct. 19 like us that have gotten theirs the last few days. So I'm impatiently waiting for ours to show up! :cheer2::cheer2::yay:

So I have Mickey mail and magic bands coming the same week?!? I'll really fell like I need to pack after next week. 35 days!

We arrive October 19. I received our Magical Express tags & booklet on Friday (36 days) and our "Mickey mail" on Monday (33 days). Today is the last day to customize our MB's (31 days) so I expect we will receive them Friday or Monday.

I will admit, getting these items in the mail really made it finally seem real! I can't believe we'll be back at Disney a month from tomorrow!
