Pop Century Thermostat Override?

I have been searching the site and cannot seem to find anyone that has been able to override the motion sensor on the thermostat which regulates when the AC comes on and off. We would prefer to keep the AC on while we sleep and know it should be able to be done at Pop Century as with other resorts, but cannot find out the way to do it?

Anyone have an idea? We will be in WDW for 8 nights starting Sept 22nd!

On the thermostat, push the power button and the down arrow (button that adjusts the temp) at the exact same time. If you do this correctly, you will see the letters "bp" where the temp normally shows. You are now bypassing the sensors in the room. You can then set the temp to whatever you want and it keeps the room that cold whether you are in it or not. The maintenance man said that you might have to do this once a day as the thermostat tends to go back to sensor mode after 24 hours. We found that it stayed on bypass for a couple of days at a time. It was great to come back to a cold room or not wake up in the middle of the night in a sweat again. The CM that did this for us said it was not a problem doing this as they do it for people all the time.

I didn't know that - thanks.

when I get hot I can't sleep - but I also move alot when I am sleep - so this wasn't a problem for us.

but just in case - I am printing this.... :lmao:

Just a quick follow up question. Someone else mentioned that there was no Power Button on the Thermostat - can you confirm it is on the Thermostat and where it is located?

I am so glad that I read this post!!!!! I have stayed at the Pop Century twice so far. Each time I stay, the air won't go down past the 68 degree mark. This would sound cold enough but on hot summer Florida days, that 68 degrees doesn't feel like much even on the bottom floor rooms. Both times I stayed there, I was told by the hotel front desk and by Maintenance that the degrees is preset and there is no way to change the degree. After my last vist being so warm in the room, I decided not to stay there again and go to a Disney resort that I could control the air. My last visit there was 5/06 so I'm suprised reading this post that they didn't help me reset it lower.

However, now that I know this information, I will be willing to give staying there another shot. Thanks so much for posting this information!

The ones at the Poly do have a power button right on the front of the thermostat. If you have any problems just give maintenance a call. They are more then happy to come and show you how to do this.

I posted on the Pop FAQ thread that there is no Power button. If there is a Power button they're hiding it pretty good. We were in a room in the 80's our first night then moved to the 50's for the last 7 nights. That was Sep 2-10.

We were there in March, wish I would have known this. There was a few nights the room got a little warm for us. If we go back I will make mental notes!!! :)

We are at CSR right now and thank heavens for the outride information here on the boards. Love it! The kids room is much warmer with no override.

Hi, we are just back from the Pop, and the maintenance man and his assistant explained that you could NOT override the Pop system like the others. The reason is the motion sensor. They cannot even put in ceiling fans because it would defeat the energy saving system installed. At least, this is what he explained. He did suggest finding a way to have something "move" in the room without having the need for us to keep moving during the night. So, my very inventive husband grabbed the dental floss (very MacGyver like), strung it from the sconce light over the table to a water bottle on the table. Then he tied several tissues on it like a kite tail. The tissue line (sort of like a weird clothesline) then swayed in the breeze and kept the motion sensor on the entire time we needed it. :rotfl2

We took it down each day before leaving the room and putting it up later in the day. So, considering my hot flashes and mood "changeability" due to suffering those heat flashes, he came up with a very creative way to keep me happy!!!

Next trip, easy solution. We bring a small table fan and put in on oscillate to defeat the sensor. I bet that even one of the real small ones at Walmart would be sufficient.

So, My husband saved his trip from my complaining, lol, by the old dental floss/tissue clothesline trick.

There are also motion sensors at the Poly. You can override them just like I explained. I don't know why the ones at Pop are different.

These instructions work on the central air thermostats.

So to summarize what has been stated, is it correct to say it is not possible to override the thermostat at Pop Century and one needs to rig something up to stay in motion while no one is moving in the room in order to keep the AC running?

I thought all WDW resorts had central air thermomstats. The Poly uses a motion sensor also. IWhat am I missing. LOL~! It wouldn't be the first time either!

It's ok to do this but not talk about refilling old mugs? :rotfl:

Why not? The maintenance guy says they get this request all the time. Big difference between this and reusing refillable mugs. I'm using the A/C in a room I letted. I'm not trying to get the room free every trip~!

"The maintenance man and his assistant explained that you could NOT override the Pop system like the others. The reason is the motion sensor."

When we arrived at Pop last June, the first thing we did was call maintenance about the HOT room. He came and said nothing was wrong with the system and this was as cool as it goes. I said, "I read on the internet that the system has an overide...and could he please help us." He said the only way to overide was using the motion sensor with a balloon or something else that moved. I told him that we had also read about this strategy, but that I knew they could be overidden beyond using the sensor. I made some pleading comment about how I would just have to stay up all night working on figuring it out....but couldn't he just please help us. Finally, he said "I didn't do this..and you don't know my name (jokingly covered his name tag)". Then he pushed a few buttons and tadah..system overide! We were cool and comfy for the next few days!

To the OP:
I'm glad your getting better luck on your post than I did on mine (almost identical) a few months ago. I got the 2 cents of everyone and their brother on how the rooms are plenty cold enough and this was a pointless topic.
Great thread! deja vous!
The annoying "unpleasantly warm" rooms at the POP was the #1 reason we switched our upcoming trip from POP to AS Music. I had seen in my last trip notes where I said the temperature was very hot, and I didnt get a good nights sleep all week. At home I sleep with the AC on, and 2 fans. My son is autistic and has Sensory Integration. He is really sensitive to temperatures and gets hot very easily. If its hot at night, noone will sleep! He will make sure of it. I thought it was miserable. I woke up often, wetted down my head and went back to sleep. My wife is less hot natured, and she was very comfortable.

I saved the override info to my disney notes so it will be there when we go back. We will sooner or later.
