This is the dumbest system I have ever heard of. We like it about 65-66 at night too. We may have to make a run and get a fan.
Do the windows open at all to let cool night air in?
Just ask the front desk... They will send someone to your room and he/she will set the thermostat as you desire. I have stayed at POP twice (once each of the last two years) and both times all it took was one visit from maint. I like the room nice and chilly too... not quite cold enough to hang meat but cool none-the-less. The staff was happy to fix it.
Subscribing to this thread....we'll be spending 9 nights in 2 rooms at POP, end of April (maybe weather won't be too hot then?)...interested to see how this turns out..... Will give DH a heads-up that some MacGuyver-like maneuvers involving balloons/fans/tissues may be in order if the room gets too hot ...either that or just a call to maintenance!
I do HVAC for a living. When we were at the POP last Sept we got to our room at about 5pm in the evening and it was HOT close to 80 in the room. I called maint and they said they would look at it. We went to dinner and when we got back the room was still hot. I saw a maintenance man working on the ice maker when we walked in and I went to talk to him. He said the 2 of the four compresors that run the chillers for our section was down and that there was a guy working on it and we come down and let me know when it was fixed. He came back in a hour or so and said they were fixed. I talked to him about the overide for the T-stat he punched a couple of buttons and said that should fix it but that our room would probably still warmer then most of the rooms because of where its located. We were at the end of one the legs on the 4th floor with a western view. This all means that the chiller is located close to where the 3 legs come together by the elevators and that the rooms closer to there get cooler. The 4th floor as a extra exposure being the roof. More cool to escape there. And finally that HOT setting Florida suns just bakes that roof line and wall with the door and window in it. Heating up your room. That coupled with the distance from the chiller I realized we where fighting losing battle. So the next day we asked to change rooms we went to the 3rd floor with a nothern exposure. I didnt see what buttons the maintenance guy pushed to override the T-stat. But I figured it out on my own (sorry I dont rememeber) and had our room cold all week mids 60s. And one more hint the rooms you see with condensation on the windows are the ones that have figured out the T-stats and have their rooms cold enough to make the windows sweat.
Our room was absolutely freezing, we were able to turn the a/c up so it wouldn't run as much. The darn thing ran almost constantly, and it was February!
Wow. This thread is as old as dirt! I see I imputed my part last year on it. I agree with the HVAC guy. Weve stayed at POP many times. I only remember it being hot twice, and the worst of the two times we were DENINATELY on the end of a leg, and on the top floor as he mentioned. I never considered that before. Noted!
This is good information to know! We stayed at YC last year and had the same problem although I don't remember any problem with the temperature on previous trips. It is good to know there is a way to override it, but if that doesn't work I will plan on doing the fan and balloon thing. One question, though, how do we know where the sensor is located? We are staying at the YC, BTW.
We left Pop 2 weeks ago today. I had 2 connecting rooms in one room you could push the temp down into the 50's in the other room not matter what I tried it would only go to 68.
And one more hint the rooms you see with condensation on the windows are the ones that have figured out the T-stats and have their rooms cold enough to make the windows sweat<<<<<
Or when you are there when it is colder and you see rooms with sweaty windows you know those folk most likely are not from the north and have their heat turned up. I noticed this in early Feb.
