Pop Century - Tell me what you like about it!

Hi Seaspray,

Last January DD and her GF took their first ever solo trip to Disney and stayed at Pop. Had a great time. DD really liked the resort and she is a bit of a snob, if I say so myself. Pop also sent a gift to her room for her 21st bday!

This Januuary DD and DS are going down Jan 2 and staaying at Pop for a few nights. I'm coming down 2 days later to join them. (airfare issues). I'll also sspend a night at Pop (looking forward to that) and then we are moving offsite to a 3bed 3 bath condo in the new Windsor Hills Resort just west of the AK.

Have fun on your trip. I enjoyed reading your other trip report and your pictures were awesome!

This info is great! We leave on the 23rd and are staying at Pop Century. This is our first time staying onsite and I'm SO looking forward to it!! Our daughter is 5 and doesn't know we're going there yet (she thinks we're going to the beach) so I have to control myself,

thanks! :flower:

My family and I stayed in the 60’s last summer. The best way to describe it is “Happy”. The colorful décor just makes you smile. We had 4 people and the rooms were perfect. The food court offered a large selection of quick foods that were very tasty. Do yourself a favor. Every morning, just take some time a set outside the food court. Enjoy a cup of coffee and look over the pool. It’s a great way to start the day. Wish I were going with you. Enjoy.

Hi, I tried the pop pictures at http://haysllc.com/Disneyworld/Reso...files/frame.htm on Wed night and liked them alot but tried to show them to my DH last light and now I can only get a picture of the sign. What am I doing wrong?

Seems that the original URL is changed. Try this one that seems to work now.

UPDATE:
Well, actually seems that not all the pictures are visible but just a few.
Probably the owner is rehabing the site... :(

Thanks BigKid :) Was the foodcourt extremely crowded each morning? I'm trying to decide if we should plan on grabbing a bite to eat there, or wait until we get to the Magic Kingdom and get something at the Main Street Bakery. My DH is diabetic, so once he gives himself the injection and takes his pills, he has to eat within a short time frame. I guess we can walk through the food court to see how long the lines are.

Do you walk through that main building to get to the bus stops, or is there a path to walk around it??

Thanks! :flower:

I always hit the food court as soon as it opened - IIRC, the hot food stations open half an hour later than do the doors - and it was practically deserted. However, within an hour (as we were headed out for the day), there were long lines at the registers.

There were always a lot of people in the food court but there was plenty of “Cast Members” to take care of it. There were never more than a couple of people at the register at one time. As far as the bus stops go, it is possible to walk around the main building however, there is a very wide passage through the main building from the room side to the bus side so it’s not a problem to get through.

We have stayed in a 60's building (poolside) at POP twice and loved it. Some people have said that the pool was too noisy for them in the evenings but it did not bother us. Sure, if we opened our room door we heard LOTS of people having a good time in the pool, but when the door was closed we either did not hear them or were to tired to notice. Have a great trip!

I was expecting to hate Pop Century when my family stayed there earlier this month. I love the Moderates (especially Riverside and Coronado Springs), and Pop just seemed garish. The icons, I was sure, would annoy me. The room would be too small for my sister, mother, father and I, I decided. Indeed, I was certain the place would be overcrowded, and that having a giftshop-foodcourt combination would turn out to be the dumbest idea ever.

Boy, was I wrong!

We got a corner room on the first floor in the 70's section - 0172. It was a fantastic location - close to the pool, food court and bus stop, but with minimal foot traffic, as far as I could tell. With the door closed, we didn't hear anything from outside. The curtains were awesome, too - they overlapped, so no light got in. The room was a good size for the four of us to share, as well.

Edit: I did get a little tired of opening my door every morning to the sounds of disco music!

Having the food court combined with the giftshop worked really well - my sister, who has ADHD, could get up and walk around in there if she felt antsy. The lines were never very long, and there was plenty of table space. The buses were fine, too - we didn't wait more than 20 minutes, ever.

Oh, and we got to stay an extra 2 days because we were at Pop Century instead of a moderate. I'd recommend Pop Century highly to almost anyone! :cheer2:

We're going to POP Oct 11th-17th, We requested ground floor, pool side in the 60s building because we spend most of our time in the pool anyway when we are at the resort and dont mind the noise. Do you think we have a chance of getting what we requested?

Thanks for that review, dazed_mint! :)

daisyduck123: I like to be in the "middle of the action" too, so I don't think it'd be too noisy if we were in a room near the pool :) I have enough peace and quiet at home, on vacation I like to have fun and see people having fun too :) And I know I'll be too tired at night to let any noise keep me awake. :teeth:

I appreciate the help. I noticed you like the Jersey shore I am headed to OC on Friday. Enjoy your trip.

I'm going POP 10/1-10/7 with my 5 yr old son and wife of 10 years. We were high school sweethearts of the 80's. Any advice on a side/part we should request of the 80's building?

When my husband and I were planning our Disney Wedding we got to stay in the Pop for One night, before our friends(fl residents) got a room at POFQ. It was nice we liked it. For the wedding we were in All Star Music and it is much nicer than that. We actually wished that we could have stayed there longer which is why we are going in Oct and staying at the pop. The only negative thing we experienced was the couple next door had a very loud argument about cups at around 3am. We had to be up and at a meeting with the coordinator at 7 so that part was bad, but this time if that happens we will just yell back and call the front desk..

I think the pop is going to be awesome

A friend from work and I went last Oct. for a long weekend and since it was just the two of us we decided to stay at Pop. Well I had previously stayed at Poly and CBR and was very leary of the value resorts, but I was so pleasantly surprised by this resort. I thought bus transportation was much better than CBR and everything was new and bright. We had a ground floor room in the 70's section with Hourglass Lake right outside the door, it was so pretty and peaceful and we had a group of huge long legged birds right outside the door every evening. It was very cool!!

Well, next Oct. we are taking a family trip (dh, dd10, dd9, and I) and I was set on staying at Wilderness Lodge (mostly to try to convert my husband) but I really think that for the money Pop Century cannot be beat and I think if I can keep the costs down that may be the key to converting dh!! Unless a huge discount comes out we will be staying at Pop!!

It's refreshing to hear positive things about Pop from a person who has stayed in a Deluxe resort. I happen to love visiting the deluxes, absorbing the ambiance, but happily return to Pop (or ASMu) at the end of the day - staying there means a longer vacation, and it's still "magic" enough for me. :)

I was thinking of staying at POR in January, but you guys are making think POP is a better choice. I'm going with my eight year old son and my sixty year old dad. Will the three of us be comfy in a POP room?
My DS and I stayed at CBR in June and everything was forever away! How's the walk to the bus stop?

Reading this thread has convinced me to give POP at try. We were at POR in June and loved it but I am curious about the values.

I've never been to CBR, but the map seems to show that it is very spread out. I adore POR's theming, but those walks are long too! Pop is much smaller. The rooms are small, though, too. I've been with my 2 kids (7 and 10) and mom (near 70) and we did fine, though I've read that many others felt cramped in the space.
