Pop Century - Tell me what you like about it!

I have a question about refillable mugs at Pop Century.
Is the hot chocolate available like in ASM?

Just got back on Sunday from a week long stay at POP and hot chocolate is definitely available.

Also here is my own personal hot tip/secret - when you go to the food court in the morning for your coffee, don't hang around there. Walk down past the Hippy Dippy Pool to the benches at Generation Gap Bridge. It's lovely, quiet and peaceful! I have photos but haven't downloaded them yet!

Thanks Seaspray for posting - it's posts like these that help us all make wise decisions. We are looking forward to staying at Pop Century. As I read in other post, we too would like to try other resorts. November will be a short trip for us and I think Pop will work out great! Who knows, we may never try another hotel again! Disney is magical in itself!

Thank you for your tip! :)
To have hot chocolate available is a good thing for me. Italians normally don't eat big breakfast like in USA (but we do BIG lunches! :D ), so one or two cups of hot chocolate with cereals is "my tip" to save a lot of money in breakfast! ;)

Thank you seaspray for asking this question. We were planning a trip in Nov. and trying to decide where to stay. We have stayed at the Poly and BWI. I love to stay at the Deluxe places but we hardly spend any time in our room. My husband suggested we stay at a Value resort and spend the savings on the dining plan. We appreciate the TS rest. but usually try to only eat TS twice to save $. Our parents have APs and have stayed at the Pop every visit (6 times a year) since it opened. They love it there. So we are giving it a try.
I love this board and the people here--the questions asked and answers given really help those of us who have a hard time making decisions!!!

P.S. to Seaspray,
I hope you and your DH have a wonderful time at WDW alone. It is very different without kids...but still magical.

Planning our next trip the week of Thanksgiving. We have reservations at Pop Century. I'm really enjoying reading about everyone's experiences at Pop.

We love POP! We were there last Thanksgiving, this June, and are going back in 14 days!! We have been in the 50's both previous times and have had absolutely no noise problems at all. We sometimes think about upgrading to a mod or deluxe, but then we usually just decide to spend more nights at POP! We just can't get enough Disney!

MMMMMMMM Anyone diabetic prolly should have a few snacks in their hotel room with them.

We take our own breakfast foods do very little snackin in the room but usually got p/b crackers.

The wait at the food court can be horrible when the parks are closing. 1st thing in the morning too when everyone heading out to the parks for the day.

Can anyone tell me where I might be able to find pictures of the grounds around POP Century, specifically the Generation Gap Bridge and Sitting Area? All the pictures I find are the ones of the big icons. We will be arriving at POP on Sunday.

Stayed at POP last September and are returning in 3 weeks :cool1:

We stayed in the 60's...Ok i'm lazy but I figure you get enough exercise in the parks :) I have no complaints at all. We never heard anyone BUT 1) it was in September and 2) we were in the back of the building (away from the pool). Also as the first "time off" from parenting a (then) 11 month old...we slept like we had never slept before :)

We enjoyed the pools and food court (but, only used each of them once during out short 3 day trip)...really no complaints from me

SeaSpray, I am so happy that you have a trip planned to Pop Century because I think you are really going to enjoy it. I've followed your posts through the years from the CBR visits and usually our likes are pretty much the same. I stayed at Pop in July and thought it was awesome. I was in the 50's, building 3, 4th floor, room 3454. The room was more spacious than I expected and very, very clean. We had a great view and were very close to the food court, 60's pool, 50's pool, etc. I liked the 60's, but, it is noisy poolside I'm sure. I would like a pool view because the noise wouldn't bother me. If you're on the backside of the 60's poolside near the 50's building 3, you will overlook a pretty courtyard and be close to the food court. The 60's lake view rooms would be a little further of a walk. I really enjoyed the food court as we had 5 kids with us and ate there many times. Try the grilled chicken caesar salad....delicious! If you have any questions, I would love to help! :sunny:

I have stayed at POP the past 2 times visiting Disney and am returning to POP in 5 days. I really think this resort is the best bang for your buck.

Service is excellent, transportation was great and for people who favor the water parks, MGM and Pleasure Island, this resort is just moments away from them all.

I used to stay only at the GF or POY but, after making an unexpected trip to Disney last year with one day's notice (all deluxes and mods were full and POP had rooms) I realize now how little I use the room and how nice it is to spend the extra cash on other things that turn down service and room service (neither of which I need).

POP is truly great and for some nice quiet time with great relaxing scenery, go the Hourglass Lake and stand on the bridge to take in the beautiful scenery.

Drinks at Pedals pool bar are rellay good and pack quite a punch!!

Man o man I can't wait for MOnday to come!!!!!

Thanks so much, everyone, for the continued comments and info, I really do appreciate it :) It's fun researching not only a new resort but a new level of resort. I am really looking forward to staying at Pop Century :flower:

angelkisses: Here is a site I found that has pictures of the grounds, including the Bridge and sitting areas:

P.S. To everyone who's going soon: Have a WONDERFUL time and then come back and tell us all about it! :sunny:

I am assuming the buses pick the guests up outside of the Classic Hall. Am I right?

The buses pick up out front of the resort (Classic Hall).

We have stayed at POP twice now the first time when the resort had only been open 5 days and then again last year at Thanksgiving. We love the pool area of the 60's section plus the colors and retro theme are way cool man!

The food was pretty good at the food court. Th only thing I don't like about POP (or any of the value resorts) is the room size. With two kids it can get a bit tight in there. Since you only have two of you, there shouldn't be any problem.

Enjoy! :flower:

I agree! I was/am very surprised to see the lake, bridge, etc. at Pop Century. I never realized there was a lake there before! Pop Century is much prettier than I realized, and having grown up in the 60's-70's, I really get a kick out of the decor. :teeth:

I stayed at POP for my solo trip this past April. My favorite Value resort has always been ASMu (I love the little courtyard area by the Jazz Inn), but POP is cleaner and somehow feels more cheerful. The lobby displays and music are a great little nostalgia trip, and the staff are genuinely friendly and enthusiastic. This was the first and only resort where I've found towel animals in my room, too. :) The bus service was the best I've ever had on Disney property: with only one exception (Epcot at closing), I never had to wait for a bus - like magic, every time I approached a stop, a bus rolled up. DS has chosen POP for his birthday celebration in April, and I'll happily go back.

Another site with pictures of POP - and so much more! - is www.allearsnet.com . If you haven't checked it out, you really should - just about everything you'd want to know is there, even menus and prices and, well, go find out for yourself. :)

What about the music in the '70s area? May I expect true Disco Music? (I'm a nostalgic of the '70s Disco era...)

:dancer: :dancer:

I can't remember music in my area (I was in 50's, and hope we're there again next time). I do remember the music from all the decades being played randomly in the lobby, food court, and bus stop areas - including some disco music, all by the original artists. ;)
