Pop Century - Tell me what you like about it!

We sort of got used to staying at moderate or delux hotels. That was when we were ok with going for long weekends. Now that we have decided that we like to go to Disney 2x a year and stay for longer than 4 days we have no choice but to go with a value. I think that next year we are going to spring for a moderate again though, I just love the atmosphere and maybe one day we will be able to stay at GF for a whole week. I had friends whose family would go to Disney for a Month and stay at the GF. They of course had a lot more money than we did but their kids hate disney now. I dont know how anyone could get to go to Disney that much and hate it..

I was at Pop Century from 8/21-8/26. It has been several years since we had been to Disney. The last time we were there, we stayed at the Grovesner. I will not be staying on site at Disney ever again. The wait for a bus was far too long and got tired of having to stand up on busses. If you stay at Pop Century you will be let out at the bus stop furthest from the opening of the park. If you stay off site, a tram will take you up to the front gate and pick you up at the front gate and back to your car.
We had 2 adjoining rooms in the 60's and paid an extra $10.00 each per room to be close to things. What did that mean? It was 475 steps to go to our van in the parking lot. Not close at all! We were on the 4th floor. Many other buildings were much closer. I had a handicapped shower, didn't ask for it and had special strobe lighting in case of a fire. Didn't ask for either of those things.
I did rent an electic scooter at the parks, but of course you have to leave it at the front of the park and make the long walk out.
If you have time, make sure you see fantasmic at mgm, it was great.

It's a great hotel ... we were in the 90's building so a bit of walk to the Everything Pop but not too bad. We were there for 5 nights, wish we had more! This was our first time staying at a Disney hotel and I LOVED it!!

Make sure to go to the bridge ... look down at all the snapping turtles and catfish!

Just online at our off site hotel but had to check my mail :D hehe

:flower:

My kids loved the fountains! I thought the life size replicas of the rubix cube, balloo, and other icons were really fun! We stayed in the 70's section, close to the pool and food court, but not bad on the noise level! Also, the buses do not share stops between resorts like all star sports and music! I didn't think the lines were too bad, we went in Mid June last summer, we did have to stand, but we split our stay with POR and had to stand on those busses also! WE are going back for 9 nights in September! 18 Days here we come!!!

We stayed at Pop on last trip in May. We were in the 50's section which I requested. We had a first floor room in the "Lady" section. It was a very quick walk to the food court. It was very close to the bowling pin pool as well as the petal pool. DD loves to swim and we sent time alot of time there everyday. We did not have any trouble with the bus service. I liked that the bus doesn't stop at other resorts. We ate a few times in the food court and everything was very good. Mousekeeping was fantastic and we even received a few towel animals. We had a great stay at the POP. I would definately stay there again.

personally i thought it was a good basic hotel..... the rooms were clean and big enough for us(2 adults) we didn't hear in room noise, no toilets ect like many have complained about( were there when it was at capacity so you'd think if we were going to hear somthing that would be the time). we did hear little ones running and yelling outside occasionally but have heard that in any hotel an they are nat. excited to be at Disney.

i was impressed with the selection and quality of the food court ...nothing( cept the putrid wdw coffee) was bad some stuff very good ( ie lots of shrimp in my shrimp lomein). tha too was clean and serivce was pretty good( only ate acouple meals but when we were there that was the case)

i thought there was plenty of "themeing" and thought little ones would love the flower pool and the fountain place.

we love FW( tradition and "raised our babies" there :goodvibes but are planning on pop again for out next trip unless a bunch of money drops out of the sky

We had a totally different experience the same week. First of all we never waited more than 15 minutes for a bus and only once did we wait that long. We had just missed the bus when we arrived at the stop. Our average wait was 5-10 minutes. A couple times we were required to stand (usually at park closing) but most of the men were real gentlemen and would volunteer to stand up so a child or woman could sit down. POP bus stops were the furthest from the parks due to it being the newest hotel. Our parking place at the hotel was a bit far but we never moved the car once we arrived until it was time to depart.

We request a room in the 50's which was granted but after arriving we realized we wanted a room by the Hippy Dippy Pool in the 60's building so we asked to be moved. We were in building 5 of the 60's on the 4th floor. We were much closer to Everything POP and I loved the fact we were right over the pool and could watch dd12 from our walkway. The pool had 6 lifeguards and they were constantly moving and very alert. My children 12 and 19 did not like the bowling pin pool as it was warmer and well just not as much fun. We were not bothered by the noise at all. We could hear the laughter of the children around the pool until around 11pm, midnight at the latest but that did not bother us in the least. Watching the children laugh and have a great time is part of the joy of Disney to us. We were not bothered by noise coming from any of the rooms which have been reported on the boards (toilets flushing, etc.).

We were very pleased with our stay and would recommend POP to anyone. Our children enjoyed the hotel as much as the parks and that says alot. The food court (loved the flat bread) and game room was very nice. There was really nothing we did not like about the POP once we got moved to a preferred location except for the Hot Elevators and the long walks to the Bus Stops at the parks but to us that was a small price to pay for not having to drive.

We stayed at the POP in July and we absoulutely loved it. We had only stayed at POR before so we can't compare it to a lot of other hotels but we will stay there again! We loved the theming and how close everything was. We enjoyed the food court, gift store and overall appearance of the hotel. Our room was very clean upon arrival and after every return from a park. My little ones (5 and 2 1/2) enjoyed the pop jets and hippy dippy pool. I would highly recommend POP!!! :flower:

I love Pop because the buses are better than at the All Stars (p.s. i tried to abbreviate and pluralize and the DIS didn't like that ;))(quicker, less crowded - not UNcroweded, just less) and for the price you can't beat it! We hardly spend any time at the resort during our stay, so as long as it's a roof over our heads with Disney service, I'm ok with it!!! :) It lets us take more trips to the World that we otherwise couldn't afford as frequently.

ETA: The staff was excellent as well. My dad had needed a presciption to be filled in Disney (he had been in the ER the night before we left with no time to fill the scrip). The cast member at the front desk spent an hour with my parents getting the scrip filled, getting us a room in the 50's an not charging us more money  , and making sure we were completely satisfied. When my mom asked him if he wanted them to step aside so he could help other people while they were waiting to hear from the pharmacy he looked at her and said "of course not, you're our guest!" :goodvibes I love Disney!!! So big thumbs up for all the Pop CMs. :)

I am so excited we will be there on Jan 1. I am glad to here positive posts about POP, I have read a few on other threads that worried me a little. The good reviews outnumber the bad so I am not going to worry anymore and just plan on having a great time.

The only two times I have been to DW, I stayed at POP. It is amazing, both times we have had 60's preffered room, non-smoking. We had a room right in front of the pool, very close to the gift shop. The only down side is that whenever you want to get to the gift shop, you have to run OUTSIDE, but that is only bad when it is raining. What I mean is, the rooms and the lobby aren't all connected under one roof. But the scenery is amazing, you will love it.
