Pop Century Room Renovations

Just read the following on a fb page I follow

POP Century Refurbishment update video: Building 9 will officially open on July 24th and Building 7 is scheduled to open August 14th.

OK, this is more like the timetable I was anticipating. Hope this is what happens.

But I keep repeating to myself "I can live without coffee in the room
I actually can't, since I will be there over Marathon Weekend in January and am running Dopey, which requires 4 days of 3am wake ups. I only switched to POP because I saw that the new rooms have coffee makers, so here's hoping there are a lot more available come Christmas!!

Can anyone who has stayed in a refurbished room on the first three floors at Pop comment on noise from above? Josh from easywdw is reporting that lower floors in refurbed rooms at Coronado are considerably louder due to laminated floors instead of carpet.

I read that too and I'm generally a first floor lover. A bit worried....

I stayed in a refurbished room two weeks ago and did hear some noise from the room above.

Five months from today I check in would love to see the 70's section done by then - so far it's been about 4 1/2 months and just getting a second completed building - but it seems building 7 has extensive work on some rooms

I guess it depends on if you have kids above you that are allowed to run and jump in the room. You'd probably hear them with carpet too. I always request a top floor at any resort.

There's no difference in noise from above between a pre and post refurbished room. The guests reporting noise from above while in a refurbished room would have heard said noise in a non refurbished room.

Isn't it 3 1/2 months? I thought they started the second building in April? That bodes well for four buildings being done by November, but I've been wrong before :D

Recalling what I've read here, IIRC they started closing 8 in early March and opened it in early June. Started closing 9 in early May and started closing 7 in early June.

8 took 3 months start to finish. If 9 opens on July 24, that would be about 2 3/4 months. If 7 opens on August 14 that would be 2 1/2 months.

The 4 1/2 months in @FinnsMom7 's post refers to the time elapsed since the whole renovation began.

Wish we had some way to give a prize to the first person who scores a new room in the 80s and reports it here.

OMG this is the best news ever. Now, I will try Touringplans for the first time this year to request my room in the building 9 "branch" closest to the hall!

I've been watching this thread with interest, but am not sure I care about the new rooms, so long as all the rooms are clean, the mini-fridge is standard, and the WIFI works. Generally, amenities outside the room have a lot more impact on my happiness than the ones inside. I don't care that much about a coffee maker (I'm picky about coffee, but on a trip to Japan found a brand of instant coffees that -shockingly enough- made me completely happy. They can be ordered from Amazon so I'm planning to bring those, my mug, and just get hot water.) We are only two people and will probably share a bed anyway, but I'm not sure the Murphy bed is that much cooler than sitting on the other one.

We decided to stay at POP (first on-site stay) because my daughter (10) is enthusiastic about the retro theming and we can walk over to AoA to enjoy that theming and take the drawing classes (Her second choice was AS Music because of the "piano pool"). I'm thinking about this:

I really enjoyed my stay in a non refurbished room. It was clean and quiet. And look at it this way: These are the retro rooms. We won't have many chances in the future to stay in them. We'll have lots of time to stay in the refurbished rooms in the years to come. This is our last chance for a classic room. ;)

I think we requested "upper floor" and "lake view" from Disney and set up Touring Plans request to be sent for the 4th floor of building 3 (50's). Sounds like that request would be fine for the 1st week in September, but can anyone argue other reasons I should consider requesting the remodeled section?

Also, can someone speak to online checkin: I did the "Start Online Checkin" process on the website, not the app, and didn't see options for choosing particular buildings or sections.

I think non-refurbished rooms will work well for you. I stayed at Pop with my daughter for her 9th birthday and we had so much fun. We loved walking around Pop and seeing all of the retro items. I got to tell some stories from my childhood and she seemed to like hearing them. The rooms are a great size for two people. Fridge worked well. The bed was comfortable enough.

It's always nice to get something new that is not worn at all, but the room I stayed in was perfectly fine. The carpet seemed clean and was not over worn. Sheets were clean. Air conditioning worked very well.

When you do online check in, there is a little tab to click on to make requests about which section. I think it was underneath one of the options. You have to click on the tab to see the requests.

What I've read on these boards, over and over, is that if you submit a room request by other means (such as Touring Plans), then you should not enter anything in the room request area for online check-in. If you do, it will/might overwrite your Touring Plans request. Just skip the room request area when you do online check-in.

Yes THIS so much more clear way to explain than my half sentences lol

Nice to know they have scheduled open dates!

I am so torn between a request for a refurbished room (so DH and I can have a queen size bed) or staying with my location preference of building 4 lake view! We are going to be there Sept 10th so I think all that will be read will be buildings 7, 8, and 9

I'm debating exactly the same thing for mid-september. I think i'm going to hold out another month and a half or so and keep my (pipe?) dream alive that building 10 might go more quickly before making a room request
