Pop Century Room Renovations

Checking in tomorrow for the Star Wars 5k race! Called to request building 10 and was told it's a preferred building. I've always been able to secure a standard room in 10...have there recently been changes? Haven't stayed since November and was in building 10 with a standard room.

They have been known to change what they consider preferred and standard. We stayed at AS Sports last summer having requested a standard room in the Touchdown section. They called me and told me I was in the Touchdown section (this was an unusual call. They said I was in Touchdown and asked if I would like to upgrade to a preferred room. I said no). When I arrived, they assigned us to the baseball section. They told me all of Touchdown was now preferred and it had been like that for a few weeks. I was very disappointed.

So they can and do change which sections/rooms are preferred and which are standard.

Building ten is one of the ones under construction as far as I know and they started with the standard rooms

I thought they were only working on building 8. Have they expanded the refurb to other buildings now?

Building 10 is in the 70's. I doubt that they've made that entire building preferred. It's probably just a cm with incorrect info.

I like to request standard 60's. I have been told on a few occasions over the phone that I cannot request that area unless I've booked preferred.

I'm guessing it's yet another misinformed phone CM. I swear that some of them see preferred rooms in a specific building and automatically think the entire building is preferred. Of course, things can change, but I doubt they made the entire building preferred. And I'd also find it hard to believe that building 10 is under construction yet. They haven't even finished building 8. As unpredictable as Disney can be, even when construction is finished on building 8, I doubt they'd jump over buildings 7 & 9 to start construction on building 10 (unless their crazy plan is to do one building in each section at first and then go back and complete entire sections -- which logistically doesn't make any sense, but this is Disney....).

I hope you were able to get a room in a location that works for you.

Anyone have any idea about the rooms with king size beds ? Are they refurbishing those rooms? And if they are , are the also going with queen and a Murphy ?

We can agree to disagree. Having stayed in a few "luxury" hotels that have moved to this type flooring ........... and found the floors quite nasty, scuffed, dirty and unclean with dust bunnies in all the corners ....... I will no longer stay in those hotels. Vinyl flooring is not necessarily easy to clean if that is what they use ........ it will take diligence on their part to keep it clean. We shall see how long they remain fresh & clean looking.

I stayed in BWV in January and the villa had this type of flooring. It's been nearly two years since their refurbishment and the flooring looked brand new and was clean from corner to corner. I have also stayed in carpeted rooms with filthy and worn floors. A lot of it depends on the standards a hotel requires from their housekeepers. I wouldn't eliminate a hotel just because they have one type of flooring over another. Give it a little time and see how the reviews are in regards to cleanliness before you write them off.

FYI: Theme Park Brothers has a You Tube Channel and he just did a walk through of Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort and has several of Disney's Coronado Springs Resort during the construction there too. I messaged him and asked if he planned on doing a walk through of the construction at Pop and he said that he will be doing one soon. I'm not sure how up close and in depth they will be able to get but I thought that I'd throw it out there if y'all want to keep an eye on his you tube channel. (I am not affiliated with them at all. Just happened across their channel.)

Exactly - it most certainly depends on housekeeping standards and capability based on time. I was responding to a poster who seemed to feel just the nature of the floor - if vinyl - would mean cleaner and nicer. I have stayed at top tier Hilton which proved that's not the case.

It could be laminate, easier to clean, but that is loud. But honestly I think once this is done they will bump the price and I won't pay any more there than I do now.

I did not notice any increase in noise at BWV, but I would hazard a guess that those buildings are a little better soundproofed than Pop.

Were they laminate or vinyl? The new vinyl is good looking, quiet (softer and install is different) and lots of other pluses .... except hard to clean. I've heard many can't tell difference. And I am putting it in my kitchen :crazy2: in a couple weeks, but with dogs ... nails on hardwood are not an option right now ... and I am having laminate taken out. Vinyl has become very popular in apartments, hotels and commercial, especially the planking. It's not like the old vinyl flooring.

The project manager on site only said when I asked if all rooms were going the Queen/Murphy or would some be the old way .... he said that the rooms as far as his plans ... "would all be like these except the Handicapped Accessible rooms."

That would be great for us. We need a roll in shower room!

It was definitely some sort of vinyl made to look like wood. It wasn't a laminate or wood product. I got up close and personal with it cleaning up a spill :rolleyes1.

Here now and talked with a manager. The only building being worked on is the 90's. It is completely closed off. The order for work will be 80s, 70s, 60s, then 50s with building 2 being the last. The barn door will go where the curtain is now. The other door will be the bathroom door. The queen bed will allow for storage under it. Entry doors on the 90's building have been wide open. It looks like a taupe color paint on some of the walls. Most rooms I was able to see were totally gutted. The door on the refrigerator will allow you to see into it and be an actual fridge. The current room refrigerators are actually beverage coolers. Most importantly the coffee maker is a go, no microwave. The flooring will allow for easy clean up of spills or leaks. King rooms were mentioned, but I'm a little fuzzy on the details in this regard.

That's a great update. Thanks. I'm at POP next week so it's good to know what building is being worked on currently. I'm looking forward to the renovated rooms when I return next year. Glad to know there will be more storage under the queen bed.

So excited to finally have some sort of update! It's been almost 2 months of work and surprised no additional details are coming up - I am there in December, hopefully as the work moves along it is easy to find out what progress is being made and which buildings to pick -
