Pop Century Room Renovations

I know I read it somewhere but can't find it now....anyone know which buildings are being currently worked on? Working on a room request and want to request a building away from construction.

I would word your request "away from construction please". This way the room assignors know exactly what you want.

80's/90's sections is what's being reported.

Room renovations started today in the 80's section!

Looking at the work orders there are a few things that I believe are happening and some I have questions about:
- 'install telescoping BR door and GR barn door'. Sounds like the curtain by the sink area is being replaced with a sliding barn door and possibly the bathroom door is being changed to a pocket door? (That second part is just my interpretation of 'install telescoping BR door.') (Day 14)

- Showers may now have glass doors (Day 15)

- Install 'beverage station' (Day 16) I sure hope this 'beverage station' is a coffee maker!!

- 'Install Inova bed' (Day 17) the Murphy bed has been confirmed

Something I would personally like to see but is not mentioned specifically is more USB charging locations. I'm pretty sure they will be there though as they are pretty standard these days.

Appears that the reno schedule for each group of rooms is 20 days. Not too sure how many rooms they are doing at a time.

I'm excited to see the first completed rooms and an hoping we can stay in one during our September visit.

There are pics from day one here.
So we are 20 days on top of the "planned" 20 day renovation schedule since they started and still no finished rooms that we have seen - either people aren't risking the trip over to the building to be nosy (I know I would go over) or they greatly underestimated the time it would take.

I would guess that part of the "delay" is that this is the first set they've done. They'll quickly learn what works/doesn't work and identify inefficiencies in the plan, and cut down the per-room project time as they move along. And contractors on big jobs like this generally have some sort of penalty built in to their contract for delayed finishes (and/or bonuses for early completion), so I'm sure there's some incentive there to get closer to the 20-day window.

My DH is a contractor so I assumed some of the same, initial block would have a learning curve. Just based on some of the earlier feedback I expected at least one of the rooms to be finished and photos to be released by now. I guess with Pandora, FD and spring break busy season there isn't a major need yet. Just me being impatient LOL

Was thinking the same thing. I'd imagine there are an unbelievable amount of issues that pop up when especially when they are just starting a construction project. It could be as simple as supplies not getting in on time to as complicated as issues of the new layout not working out. All I know is that I want to see some finished rooms, lol.

I'll be there in a couple weeks. If no one has any info before that, I'll sneak over and see if I can get photos / talk to workers :)

Sounds like a good plan. Just don't let them try to sell you a barn door for a bathroom that "fell off the truck..." :rolleyes1

We are booked for POP in September, so I'm thinking they will be booking some renovated rooms by then. I was looking at Touring Plans and they have an option for a king/double. Does anyone know if they still have these in the current rooms? I'm not sure the new renovated rooms would work for us and I'm trying to figure out our options. Thanks! :)

All reports I have seen is a double murphy, just like AoA.

No doubt it will have fans, like my friend that is going when we are is a single, so now he gets a queen bed and a roomier room, and won't even use the fold down.

It's fine for families who all go to bed at the same time and the kids will sleep in the murphy.

But we are usually 2 or 3 adults, myself and two DS. Now if I am there alone with one DS, he goes to bed early while I work on computer at table. But now the table is his bed .... or will I now have to give him a queen and myself sleep on a murphy bed? We eat in our room for breakfast, so I have to play the up and down with the bed game to use the table.

It doesn't help the pictures look like hospital rooms and the floors appear to be vinyl. Not fun to keep clean and with all this extra work being put on housekeeping, I'm thinking some real cleaning won't happen unless they hire more and reduce the number of rooms they have. Aside from the setup not really working for us, the room no longer visually appeals to me unless it's something different than those pictures.

NOW will this mean the big groups will no longer stay there? cause I see lots of broken murphy beds.... That could be a huge plus and worth putting up with it. We shall see. I just have to think if this is the plan for all rooms .... they have a specific demographic in mind because it's not a fits all solution.
I would actually disagree that this is going to put more of a strain on mousekeeping, actually I believe it will relieve it some. No more heavy vacuum to carry around/ never mind the fact that carpets are more likely to retain bacteria, germs, bugs etc., they will now in all likelihood be able to get all the way under the beds with a lightweight dust mop and probably a swiffer type mop, like the hospitals use, leaving the rooms cleaner and fresher than they ever were before in less time than it would take to sweep, mop and vacuum like they would've in the past.

The current king/double is handicapped accessible so will have those features (roll-in shower, etc.). I don't know what the plan is for the renovations with regards to the H/A rooms, though, and how it will impact the king/double.

Enjoy your vacation!

We can agree to disagree. Having stayed in a few "luxury" hotels that have moved to this type flooring ........... and found the floors quite nasty, scuffed, dirty and unclean with dust bunnies in all the corners ....... I will no longer stay in those hotels. Vinyl flooring is not necessarily easy to clean if that is what they use ........ it will take diligence on their part to keep it clean. We shall see how long they remain fresh & clean looking.

When I stayed in that room category last August, I was told by the room assigner (they called me to let me know the only one available was pool view ground floor, which we didn't really want but took as it was the only one, they only have a very few of these) that these rooms will be going away. So, either they will be exactly the same as the other rooms, but with a roll in shower, or she is wrong, as the roll in shower, which we need, makes the bathroom significantly larger, thus the configuration of the room being "different".

Checking in tomorrow for the Star Wars 5k race! Called to request building 10 and was told it's a preferred building. I've always been able to secure a standard room in 10...have there recently been changes? Haven't stayed since November and was in building 10 with a standard room.

Only part of building 10 is preferred but maybe the other parts are closed due to construction?
