Pop Century Room Renovations

What would be the best strategy? I would like a refurbished room & to not have to change rooms. I have a room only reservation Oct. 8th. Then a package Oct. 9-14.

Edited to add: I just saw that I'm a DIS Veteran!! woohoo!

I hope this is true! If we receive other confirmations we will update Post #2.

If anyone is at Disney now, can you please keep an eye out for Building 10 opening and Building 6 closing? Thanks!!

Rooms marked with a yellow line in the picture below are Preferred View rooms.View attachment 274369
We're here now. In building 9. I LOVE this room!

I have not seen anyone staying in building 10; although, there are guests in building 6 (who I actually would feel quite sad for due to all of the equipment and workers right in front of the building!) At first, I thought 10 was close to done based on the section of rooms we passed on the way to Classic Hall (the preferred L shape nearest Classic). Today, we walked between 10 and 6; there are rooms with equipment, paint buckets, etc. still in them!

We have truly enjoyed POP and even booked a bounce back! My greatest and only complaint is mousekeeping. The service is terrible, and these new rooms will not be maintained if it is allowed to continue.

You can request it but unfortunately that's about all you can do as far as I know. I was in the same situation for September but can't share what happened as we had to cancel our trip due to Irma the day before we were supposed to arrive.

I guess the one suggestion I have is to visit the main desk before going to your room and seeing if they have any idea if you're going to be moved after your first night. If you are, you could see if they could work with you to find a room you could stay in for the entire length of your stay.

I was in the same situation with my reservation. First 7 nights package and a room only reservation for my last night. But I called Disney and asked to talk to Guest Service and they have the power to join the one night to my package and made it for 8 nights. ( hope you understand, my English is not good sometimes) just and advice if you want a package Oct 8-14. Call guest services, they can make it.

That’s so strange because I read a post on another board from someone who checked in yesterday saying they got a new room in 70’s. Unless they didn’t know what area they were in. I’m so confused.

I'm staying at Pop at the end of the month for one night only. I'm excited for any alone time with my mom to just peruse and leisurely look, we usually travel with my DD and DH. We've never stayed at Pop but I was wondering how to go about putting in room requests for the refurb, especially now that all the online requests are down? My mom has bad knees so something close to the buses would be best but not as important as the refurb. I booked standard as that was all that was available a few days ago.

Call the Main Reservations line and add a request of "refurbished room" to your reservation. This can be done any time from the day you book up until 4-5 days out.

this is purely a guess but I'm wondering if this person is staying in a room that begins with 7? They might assume those rooms are the 70's section when in reality those rooms are in the 80's section.

I am here now. Building 10 has the curtains pulled back. Some rooms look more ready than others. CM told me done by the end of October. Building 6 being closed and started in the next week or so. Buildings are being done in clockwise order with lobby being the last. He thinks another year or year and a half worth of work but we know info and can hit or miss. But looking at the speed of buildings being done he may be the right.

That poster came back and said they're in building 7. They now realize that's the 80's section, not the 70's. Building 10 isn't open yet.

We always tip for Housekeeping. Do they always come on the fifth day, or is it "around" the fifth day? I want to be sure to leave them a tip.

I want to just leave the envelope out for them. I'm considering leaving a smaller tip for bringing the towels and coffee.

I just don't want them taking a full "bed making, cleaning up" tip on the days they just bring us towels.

Should I leave a "Thanks for the coffee and towels" envelope by the coffee maker? And the Mousekeeping envelope elsewhere, like the dresser? I feel like I'm making this more complicated. Lol.

My understanding is that they do a full cleaning on the 5th day automatically. (Not sure if it's always exactly on the 5th day or not.)

I have heard that they bring towels, coffee etc when Housekeeping is called and items are requested. They do not automatically drop these items off. My experience has been that they come fairly quickly so if you wish to tip you will probably be able to do that in person or, if you leave I'm sure if you specified it was a tip and left it near the coffee maker they would know it was for them.

I forget, has the Mousekeeping offer been extended indefinitely? or just through October? Also for those that stayed and declined, was anyone able to request coffee supplies in bulk early on in the stay?

wait, I think the lobby is cute, I'm not ready for change there!

*takes hundreds of lobby/food court/gift shop pictures on next trip*

I know there have been a lot of posts saying the room request section of online check in isn’t working. I just did online check in for my next trip, and the drop down menus worked just fine. It let me put in a request for 80’s and one for 90’s. Now, I have never had any luck changing the requests once I finish the initial check in, even at other resorts - and maybe that has been what is causing some hiccups for others. But I just wanted to share that I was able to put in my requests as part of online check in.

Keeping my fingers crossed for a refurbished room! :flower1:
