Pop Century Room Renovations

I agree. There's no real reason for them to offer a shuttle between resorts as there no food court, pool, etc. shut downs at either resort that would justify the cost of the shuttle. It was just a dream/wish of mine....not something I really thought would happen. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that the bridge is open when we're there next summer. If it's not, no big deal...I really don't need to go to Pop for anything, it's just nice to have the option to take their bus from a park and then walk over to AoA. But I'm not willing to walk around the lake for that convenience.
I have fingers crossed that bridge will be open in Nov!! For food court options, and bus options!

What is this Gondola thing all about? I'm not understanding so if someone could break it down for me that would be great. There's been a gondola system announced? It will go from the Pop/AoA to where? Any other resorts affected? What is the time period expected for this to go live?
TIA for helping me understand.

Gondola system will connect CBR, POP/AoA and the International Gateway at Epcot. So guests staying at Pop, AoA and CBR will have an alternate mode of transportation to Epcot.

If suppositions based on permits are correct (Disney hasn't made any official announcement yet, AFAIK), it will also connect to DHS. There's a thread on the DIS News & Rumors board if you want more information.

Thanks. I forgot to mention DHS.

Disney officially announced it a few hours ago at D23 with a layout of the line.

They look really small. I'm definitely too claustrophobic for those. :scared:

I will be bringing lots of anti-anxiety meds to Disney with me once this opens.

Yeah they don't look like anything like the know-it-alls were projecting unless Disney is drawing very abstract cars ..... They even said something to the effect of guests experiencing a flash back to the Skyway. o_O They look small, like maybe a family or two.

I kudo you if you go for a ride ... I will be using ground travel. :drive:

A lot of the rumors/speculation I was reading said the cars would likely hold 8-10 people. Looking at the drawings, I'm thinking it will be more like 6-8 people. But the drawings could be deceiving. Time will tell. I will probably try it once and see how it goes. The drawings make it look like it's not super high (though anything more than 6 ft. off the ground is pushing it for me. :D). I'm already stressing about doing rope drop at Epcot since we'll now be coming in from the IG. Maybe we'll have to rope drop FEA or Soarin' instead of TT. I really shouldn't even be worrying about this yet. See why I need those anti-anxiety meds????

Some of them were acting like they would hold 20-30 people .... I think you are right, looks more like a "family rafter ride".

Honestly if they are as small as they look ... do you think only guests at the 4 resorts will be allowed to ride them? Those resorts could have something like 20-30,000 guests ... that is a lot since many will pick those resorts for the proximity to those parks.

I can just see non-guests wanting an extra attraction trying to joy ride.

I'm not even sure our entire family would fit into one of these cars! It looks rather terrifying to me. Kind of like the Skyfari at the San Diego Zoo or the old Skyway at WDW. Is there any confirmation of whether this will be the only form of transportation to/from HS and Epcot?

Just my thought however I doubt it would be the only form of transportation. There are several resorts with multiple transportation modes. Port Orleans for one offers boat transportation to Disney Springs as well as the bus system. Doesn't the resorts that have a boat system to Epcot and Hollywood Studios offer bus as well? That one I'm not sure of but I thought they did.
All in all, who knows, however I can't imagine that they would have only that system to support three resorts going to two parks. It just doesn't seem big enough. Again JMO.

The Epcot resorts (BC/YC & BWI) only have the boat as transportation to Epcot and HS. The other transportation method (and my experience, the faster one) is to walk. Since it's not possible to walk to walk to any parks from Pop, hopefully they will continue the bus service to Epcot and HS. I'm not sure they will, though. The only transportation from the CR to Epcot is the monorail. I hope they'll keep buses going because I'm not finding those little gondolas very appealing from the drawings!

LOTS of folks have fears of heights and claustrophobia ... and I think the capacity will be an issue. But we will see, plus for me is I always have a car so I am happy to park for free at the parks and take up a paying spot from someone else if no buses. But then again by time they finish this those hotel prices might be way more than the value of the rooms. Gotta pay for that sky bucket somehow.

They plan on having the "Minnie" Van service available to take you anywhere you want within DisneyWorld property. I don't know what kind of fee there will be, but maybe that is the other option they will provide for those that do not want to use the gondola.

Maybe the gondola will be the free transportation mode offered, and the Minnie Van will be the optional transportation provided for those that don't wish to use the gondola. Since it was compared to Uber I'm assuming there will be a fee involved. However, maybe it will be a better option than renting a car for more money.

The MiniVan will be a fee based service and will be in addition to the Gondola and buses. The Gondola and buses will both be options for Epcot and DHS.

We are staying at POP in Dec, hoping for a refurb room away from construction, would the 80's bldg be our best bet? Any idea when the skyliner will be up and running, couldn't find anything on a projected date?
