EDITED: Now that I am awake I have more to say!
Arrived at Pop Century via Mears on May 3. Check-in was smooth as I had already pre-paid for my AP room. I was given all of my request: 80 building, 4th floor, pool view, non-smoking. The front desk clerk was very friendly and very helpful with all of my questions and directions request.
THE ROOM: Now, I must say... I am very ANAL retentive when it comes to cleaning....and no matter how clean the room was ... I could find something. I didn't expect the room to meet my "Monica" (from Friends) cleaning expectations. But I was pleansantly surprised. There were a few minor details but they were so minor I wasn't going to complain.
Now you can hear the neighbors shower but it wasn't so loud that it made a big difference. The toliets do flush with force but it not an annoyance. Only when they stop up
but that is another story to be discussed on the trip report board. I can say the Engineering Department was very prompt and helpful with my stopped up toliet.
The beds in my opinion were very comfortable and after a 12 hours in the parks a welcome site. I also had first hand experience with the not changing the seats and blanket thing. However, a polite call to the front desk and housekeeping was all over it the next day and the supervisor called and left a voicemail to follow-up that the room was cleaned to my standards and it was. My daughter even commented on the difference when we walked in.
I didn't feel crowed or overwhelmed by the number of people at the POP. They only time I felt a little frustrated was in the morning trying to get breakfast and late at night trying to get something at 10:30 at night when everyone else was trying to eat at the same time. The parks make you hungry for some reason.
The food court was okay...nothing to write home about. My daughter ate at least 3 slices of the red velvet cake, 1 slice chocolate, 1 carrot cake, and everything else so I guess the food was good. I will post pictures on the Food Thread. I didn't do the refillable mug even though it is good value. I just don't drink that much soda and coffee. As soon as they make milk an option. I will be all over the refillable mug. However, I thought that people became a "slave" to the mug to get the most out of it. They had to carry it with them to the parks so they could refill it when they come back. There was one family in particular who we kept running into that commented that she was tired of her mug. I PERSONALLY wouldn't want to carry it to the park. I would just make a trip back to the food court. The walk from each hotel to Pop Everything Food Court is not long (in my opinion) no matter which theme area you stay at. However, if you are older or have trouble walking diffently stay closer to the food court.
The Pop had three very nice pools that where not crowded at all even on the hot days. I didn't witness any of the "pool chair" hogging as there were more than enough pool chairs at each pool location. Near each pool there are laundy facilities. Each facilities was clean and I didn't notice any "machine" hogging and it was very nice to do laundry while my daughter pretended to swim or should I say attempted to drown herself (another topic for the trip report board).
There also was an arcade available. However, my daughter didn't spend any time in the arcade because it was all about the parks. A caracturist was available for fun photos. We are going to do this a the Mall of America at home but if we had had time would have done this at Disney.
I loved the theming of the POP and found it to be very beautiful and well maintained. All of the staff were friendly with the exception of one women in the food check-out line. She was treating me as if I had stole my VISA. Anyhooo........I would stay at the Pop Again. It was a great resort for the money paid! I did visit a few of the deluxe and moderate resorts and they are beautiful. I am totally in LOVE with the POLY. However, for my budget and actual time spent in the room I would not be able to justify paying that time of money for a hotel. I spent about 6- 8 hours in the room and that was just for mid-day breaks and sleep.
Speaking of mid-day breaks, I would also never, ever, ever stay off-site. It was a relief in the middle of a hot day to take a break back at the room. We did this almost every day. If I stayed off-site I would have been kicking myself in the butt, because it would have been too much of a hassle to go back to an offsite room. However, with a Disney resort its just a long walk to a THEME PARK bus stop and a short wait and ride to the resort.
WHAT I DIDN"T LIKE WAS THE DISTANCE TO THE BUS STOPS AT THE THEME PARKS!!!! Why does the bus stops have to be at the last stop for almost every park. The EPCOT stop is the very last one. When you are tired and just want to get back to your room your walk can seem extra long. However, the bus ran very promptly every 10 to 15 minutes. It was the long walks to the bus stop that I got tired of. MGM is okay. However, after you walk around the long loop at AK you are exhausted. MK....I just won't go there! If you are looking to lose a few pounds stay at POP because the walks to the POP bus stop from the Theme Parks will shave at least 5-10 pounds off the hips in 7 days.
Bus service from the POP to the parks was fine in my opinion. The ran often and I didn't feel like I had to wait more the 10 minutes for a bus to come. I will not comment on the behavior of people's children on the bus because it won't do any good! Yes, I will comment there are a lot of spoiled children who have no respect for there parents.
Shame you on parents for not having any control of your children. I had the pleasure of riding with all of the children from NANNY 911. :sad2
I placed a credit card on file so check out was simple. They left a copy of the final bill hanging on my room door. I had already pre-paid my total bill and didn't use my room key as a charge. The bill was accurate so no need to go to the front desk to check out. A BIG time saver.
I am now a POP fan and will definitely stay there again as I am only willing to stay at a value resort because I don't spend that much time in the room.
