Just realized BlogMickey has an earlier post with photos of what the refurbishment process looks like from the outside: https://blogmickey.com/2025/04/pop-century-room-refurbishment-underway/

Maybe just negative nancy me but ........... going to the effort of a new floor w/inlay rug and for the most part we can't see it. Why doesn't it go all the way to front of the dresser?BlogMickey visited a refurbished room: https://blogmickey.com/2025/05/refreshed-pop-century-guest-rooms/

They don’t want the rug in high traffic areas (i.e. the walkway between the end of the beds and the dresser) where it will wear quickly, the same reason they don’t do wall to wall carpet anymore. This way you have it where you get in and out of bed and it adds some color.Maybe just negative nancy me but ........... going to the effort of a new floor w/inlay rug and for the most part we can't see it. But it’s not a real rug. It’s a laminate inlay. Should wear the same as the rest of the flooring. They don’t want the rug in high traffic areas (i.e. the walkway between the end of the beds and the dresser) where it will wear quickly, the same reason they don’t do wall to wall carpet anymore. Yes if they bought good quality it should not have any issues no matter where it is. And honestly if that is the concern then don't bother if you are going to hide it. It really does minimal to add to the room since it is mostly covered. Wall paint and curtains are enough. But it’s not a real rug. It’s a laminate inlay. Should wear the same as the rest of the flooring.

Paint, rug and curtain give a nice pop of color but was this even necessary? Are they new mattresses? it's been 8 years of heavy usage. Well at least if I don't get a new room in a couple weeks (I know low odds) it really isn't much different.![]()
I think it’s a rug, just one that’s flush. The laminate is the rest of the flooring. Blog Mickey is using photos and text provided by Disney, like the other sites and that terminology is strange. You can see Disney Tourist Blog refers to it as a rug. We’ll see as people start staying in them but it would be strange to refer to something that isn’t a rug as a rug. A laminate inlay isn’t a rug.But it’s not a real rug. It’s a laminate inlay. Should wear the same as the rest of the flooring.
OH YOU ARE SO RIGHT! I leave every trip with bruises! I've started putting stuff on the end of bed to remind me or suitcase at end of bed to block me. I might pack a pool noodle this trip.I'm right there with you on the rug inlay. If it extended a few more inches along the "walkway", it might be a visual reminder of the corner of the beds and help people not to walk into them so often. But it doesn't even extend past the bottom edge of the bed and the pull-down bed actually extends further than the inlay. If people keep the bed down all of the time, they'll barely see the inlay. And if they fold the bed up, the inlay is a distraction and makes the room look smaller (to me).
I'm all for bringing back more Disney touches to the rooms, but I'm not fond of that curtain (with or without the Mickey) -- it's just too "busy" for my taste. I like the new paint, though!
All that being said, I would still stay at Pop Century if we don't need a suite at AoA on our next trip.

Rugs are nice until they’re not. That’s why what they’ve done with some of the new remodels (e.g. Grand Floridian) has been great. They’ve used area rugs instead of carpet so they can be easily cleaned and/or replaced.BlogMickey wrote: “Some changes include a new laminate inlay for the flooring and a new curtain featuring Mickey Mouse.”
I hope it’s a laminate inlay. Not a rug. Rugs are gross in a hotel room.
This post says the Facebook post claims to have been in the room and said it’s a laminate inlay not an actually carpet. From pop century Facebook group
For those wondering what the updated Pop rooms look like, I just arrived and took these today.
The "rug" is an inlay and not a physical rug or vinyl sticker.
But when you enter the room the floor design is not “ hidden “ at all.The splash of color on the floor, adding some color to the wall and the design on the window curtain make me optimistic for the future of Disney’s refurbs. They didn’t have to* go to that effort or cost. The floor inlay adds a fancier feel to the room to me, echoing the area rugs of higher end hotels like GF. (I don’t like the curtain but I respect it lol. It seems very Disney + Pop appropriate.)
*well Disney 2020-2024 didn’t have to, seeing the bazillion 2025-2026 promos currently on offer maybe future Disney World does need to show some effort…
I do too.Well I guess I'm in the minority then, I actually like the curtain!
