It's my understanding that there is a $10/day rental fee for fridges in the value resorts, including pop century.

Do they also charge the $10/day if you need the fridge for medical reasons? (to store your medicine)

I believe, however, that the 'medical' fridges are MUCH smaller and not like a regular refridgerator at all.

As of 2 weeks ago, it was a very small, maybe 12" by 18" refridgerator that is in the room when you need one for medical purposes (I'm diabetic), but I think that's the same size you get in all the values, for all reasons.

You get larger ones when you are at the moderates, for sure.

FWIW, I've had very good experiences with Pop having my fridge in the room and cold by the time I get there - just note on the reservation AND when you check in that you need it that way.

I wonder also if you would to have a DR.'s note
in order to get one for free,
because anyone can say I need a fridge because I have medication?
Or would showing the bottles of Medicine be enough?:confused3

There are many refridgerator swaps going on at Pop Century which you can find on the budget board. Many of them are free. Just do a search on that board for fridge swap and depending on your dates, you can get a full size fridge for free.

I've never had anybody ask me for any verification, neither on the phone or on site. I could always show them the insulin, should I need to, but I've never been asked to.

I can't speak for all of the values, but I can tell you that when I was at Pop last month we had to pay for a fridge - $10 a day and it was the most beat up thing you've ever seen (bless it's heart!)

we were there the end of Sept and one of the people in our group ( of 11) needed a fridge for medications and we told them at check in and they sent one to their room at no charge..

thanks for all the responses!
the last time we stayed at a value resort was about 12 years ago i think...
at that time we rented a fridge (for $10/day)...
it was tiny, but I'm pretty sure the same size as the one we got at POR in subsequent years..
in any case, it was big enough for our purposes...

we always have had a fridge for milk for the kids..

the kids are grown up, but now we actually need it for medicine that needs refridgeration.

anyway, DD and i are going on a spur of the moment trip in a couple of weeks...
since it's just the two of us, i was thinking of trying out pop century...
even though the last time she and i went alone we stayed at the GF....
but i really want to try something new this time..

Us either. My mom is a diabetic and we've always received a free fridge. I always ask at check in if they need to see her insulin and have always been told no. The only thing is, twice on the last morning we've found it charged to my credit card (on the list of charges they leave on the door for express check out). It was never a big deal though. I just had to run down to the desk and they credited the charges back both times. You may want to check your final bill closely though on check out morning.

My Dad needed a fridge for insulin as well. I had it noted on my reservation and there was one in the room for him when we arrived. They never asked for any documentation, and the fridge was big enough for a half gallon of juice and milk.

Just moderate and deluxe resorts. (And villas, of course)

Disney will allow a complimentary fridge for medical reasons at the value resorts.

We got a fridge for medical purposes in August at POP. We did not have to show a doctor's note or medicines. It was a regular dorm room size fridge
