Pop Century Legendary Years

Some friends of ours just returned from a week at Pop Century. They asked about the uncompleted Pop Century buildings and were given an entirely different story.

They were told that Disney is currently working on "finishing" these buildings. That these building are NOT being torn down, but that there may be some demolition in order to bring the buildings up to code.

Our friends said that there seemed to be a lot of work currently going on on the other side of the lake.

I certainly hope that what there were told is the real truth.

that's encouraging to hear

looking forward to seeing what "changed" when we're there in december

Some posters on another internet board think the name is going to be changed to POP CULTURE. It's consistent with the theming. Since it's the same number of letters it should be relatively easy to change the signage.

Some people claim the current signs are currently covered, meaning a name change is imminent.

Disney may have decided to get out of the hotel construction business, excepting DVC. Disney sold/leased land to Four Seasons and the Western construction is all outside hotels.

This is interesting, because i just got back and they were doing alot of work on all off the tiered signs/walls going into the POP Century. Seemed like they were jackhammering and they were all covered up.

but what did the abandoned buildings across the lake look like?

did you see any work going on with them?

they look like uncompleted rooms.brown no artwork ect,
have been going to pop since the very first day it opened, and have never seen any work being done on legendery years

It really would be a shame if they never complete it. Last time we stayed at Pop I spent some time going to the top level of each building so I could get different views of the Golden Years area. I tell you, if they ever did finish it up it would be really nice with the lake seperating the two facilities. It would feel a lot more like a moderate than a value. They could even have some Mickey boats zooming around for fun! I really wish they'd finish it. ::MickeyMo

Until I see them torn down and fields of wheat planted in their place.. ;) -- I'm sticking by my prediction of construction re-starting in late 2008 / early 2009 .. with completion by 2010 or 2011.

That prediction could be wrong.. however I do tend to trust these sources...
(but yes even THEY can be wrong..)

I guess it's possible both rumors are correct. Disney could be going forward with POP suites but decided not to call, or theme it, POP. Possibly makde it a moderate resort.

We just got back from the POP yesterday. We saw a lot of painting and touching up around the resort, but nothing going on across the water. I even went investigating into the shrubbery to get a good look across the water at the unfinished portion. I kept wanting to ask a CM about it, and then forgot.

............you forgot!? {our gang,"the pirates have got the ship" 1932}

I'll be sure to report anything I see when I return from POP on the 22nd this month. Maybe just maybe I'll catch some construction going on on. Come on a girl can wish!:)

don't get caught trespassing!!!

(just go as far as the shrubbery and the fencing allow....)

that would be really awesome: all family suites in a value, and lakeside views besides!!

The family suite rooms would definitely be a great idea! I have no doubts that they would keep those full of larger families! That is the toughest part about being a family of 5....finding affordable accommodations on property!
