I loveddd the villains theme.. I wish disney paid homage more to the villians aside from at Halloween and the DHS:) I totally love the idea of a pixar hotel with monsters inc, bugs life, up, toy story etc:)

Maybe pixar family suites with villians on the roof.. okay a bit too odd.

I think they should keep the decades but add Disney History. For example the '20s could include Steamboat Willie
The '30s could have Snow White
They could throw in some pop culture as well.

I just wish they would finish the resort. It is an odd part of Walt Disney World a place that has a reputation for being clean and almost perfect. They go to a lot of trouble to cover the fronts of buildings they are painting with tarps that actually resemble the building. They build large walls to hide the construction of new attractions.

But Pop Century sits unfinished. . .

I like that idea! It would be interesting to see what they did with the 40's history since much of it would focus on military training films. I'm sure there are other things they could emphasize.

I've always wondered why they take such care to hide construction everywhere else but not at Pop.

What if they did it Princess themed? Each building could be a different Princess movie theme... Snow White, Belle, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel, Jasmine .. who am I missing??? I know my dd would demand we stay there.
Awwwww MOM!!! I don't wanna stay in a stinkin GIIRRRRL MOTEL!!! Dont they have one for BOYS???:rotfl2::rotfl2:
But seriously, There have been some great ideas here.:thumbsup2 Disney should come here more for free advise rather than paying for all those expensive polls and surveys.

If I remember write from reading a book on Walt, I think Pinnochio, Fantasia, Dumbo and Bambi all came out in the 40's.

i really enjoyed seeing these pics of legendary years... but in a way, it makes me sad too, to see it going to waste, not being finished, or used. especially in this economy, where we are all downsizing and downgrading.... these hotels are in high demand! :confused3

They should collect money from 30,000 people
money.gif
and use the money to finish the newest DVC resort !
:rotfl::rotfl:

Okay - forgive me because I haven't been on here for a while but when I look at that Bing.com map (awesome btw), it looks like all of the buildings except for the main hall have been torn down. Am I looking at this wrong or did these actually get torn down? Or are these the slabs that never were built on and the old buildings are somewhere else?? I'm sooo confused!!

Nothing has been torn down. Only two buildings at the extreme north of the plot and the main hall were constructed. The rest of the area contains slabs or even just cleared areas for the remainder of the buildings.

Nothing this past weekend. I've never stayed at pop (we're always at mods, normally POFQ) but this weekend did because we had a friend. I actually paid $20 MORE to stay at Pop than it would have cost at POFQ (rack rate at Pop vs passholder at POFQ) because we had the friend there. I became obsessed with these buildings and as soon as I got home looked up everything I could about them, including reading this entire thread. I've always wondered why Pop century only had 50 years but figured that it was some stupid person at Disney who didn't know a century was 100.
Because of this abandoned hotel, I am inexplicably drawn to stay at Pop now, and yet don't even want to go to Pop again. Abandoned buildings of any kind seriously mess with my equilibrium, and this is doing it in a big way.

I would LOVE to see it finished as a mod resort. Keep the regular Pop at a value, and add this one with a little bit nicer comfort level, a better pool, and a restaurant. Classic could visit Legendary, but Legendary itself would be a bit more refined. I LOVE the "larger than life" theming at the values, I just don't like the sucky pools (look, their pools suck. They really suck), the lack of real food, and the smaller, drabbier rooms. I would love a nicer hotel with STILL the over the top theming that the values have. I can have a water slide and comfortable bed and still have a 40 foot tall dog. I know I can. While we love POFQ, it's a little too unDisney for us as is. The deluxe and DVC resorts, while fancy and nice, would never get my money because when I go to Disney I want DISNEY. I don't want fancy and I certainly don't want home. I want Grand Floridian comfort and ammenities with a kick butt water slide and a 5 story Mike Wazowski. Why can't I have both?

For whatever reason, I'm fascinated by the legendary years. Somehow, I completely forgot to check it out and take pictures on our trip in February. :headache: I blame it on the fact that I was trying to do a million things during our trip. ;) When we go back in December, I'm definitely taking time to see it. :)

I was taking a short virtual trip to Pop Century ... well I needed to check the mileage for the 12th time. While I was looking at Google Maps I found this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epcot_Center_Ultralight_Flightpark

Apparently the Legendary years area was formerly used as an ultralight airport when Disney used ultralights in an Epcot event.

Everybody else but me already knew this, right?

I don't know how many people knew it, but I had seen it tagged before.

I didn't know it was used for an EPCOT show though.

Bump.. Its been a few months since the last post here.. anything interesting happening with the "dark side"? We're staying at Pop in March and will be interested in doing a bit of nosing around

Wow what great info here. I work at a hospital and they are doing the same thing adding on to what we already have and a whole floor is sitting there empty. Sometimes I wonder what these companys are thinking.
