Pop Century is Far Out!

Tyler, I sure hope that there are upper management CM's that read these boards and see how informative and helpful you have been. I booked 2 rooms at Pop Century yesterday for our February trip and am just soooooo excited. Reading this thread and all the information that you have been able supply has made me even more excited about going. I also was able to get in on the $49 Florida resident rate so with 2 rooms it makes it soooo affordable for our large family.

You've been great, Tyler, and I can't wait to thank you in person in February!!!! So is there a Tyler fan club yet? :teeth:

:earsgirl:

LOL, there was somewhat of a fan club awhile ago... a whole thread (and a big one at that) on finding me on my bus. I've made it easy to find me now... not much of a challenge anymore! :)

As for management... Disney Transport management was watching me, yes. *shrug* But we won't go into that ordeal.

Not sure if Pop mgmt is watching me... although, I wouldn't mind them watching me... I like my management team at Pop :)

Just got back form POP....... I posted my visit under hotels so I don;t want to repeat the whole thisng but for those of you following this thread........ real quick

I LOVED
I WILL GO BACK
I was also looking for a name tag that said TYLER but never found. lol

We also just got back form PC and loved it! I couldn't find Tyler either, and the CMs were VERY busy, the place was packed! The CM at check in said they were at 90% capacity.

Oh, one neat thing I found out! We stayed in the 50's building, the one at the very end and we could see the fireworks from Epcot at night by standing outside on at the rails. It was a really good view!

My one complaint was parking, there were not enough spaces for everyone and people started parking all along the sides of the roads and some people got parked in. We had planned to drive to the parks, but decided we didn't want to have to find a place to park when we got back so we just took the buses.

Oh! And another neat thing (to my kids anyway, not me), at the arcade games, you get tickets that you can turn in for prizes (like at Chuck E Cheese). It wasn't like that at Old Key West or Beach Club when we stayed there, so this was unexpected. My kids loved that! Personally I don't like them going to arcades very much, but we always let them go once when it is a new arcade.

Anyway, it was a lovely resort (the tye-died cheesecake was great!). We would go back again.

Thanks Tyler for all of your help!
DJ

I've got a question for you. Can I get a rollaway at the Pop Century? I don't think my kids will enjoy sharing a bed! I called CRO and was told 'no' but I thought I'd double check.

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunetly, that was a problem that we were not quite expecting. The resort was designed and mostly built prior to September 11th, when most people were flying in. However, due to recent events, more people are driving and parking. Also, we ended up getting a LOT more Florida residents that we anticipated. As such, the parking lots were overflowing. Just the other day, they opened up an additional grassy area near the 50's to help with the situation.

Plans are already in the works to add more than 200 more spaces to the 50's, and other areas to help alleviate the congestion. However, as you can expect, this might take a few months. We're hoping to have it complete by Spring Break time, but who knows... we want to do it right, and not be a rushed job. (It's not so much the paving, but drainage and such)

That is good to hear, Tyler. I'm glad that Disney is going to add more spaces. It really was the only thing we found to be a problem while we were there. Other than that we simply LOVED the resort! It was wonderful! We hope to stay again some day!

Hope this next week goes well for you guys. The CM that checked us in said that you were at full capacity today!

Some of the king bed rooms have wheelchair accessible bathrooms, which mean they do not have a tub, just a shower.

HOWEVER... we DO have some king bed rooms with standard tub/showers.

As for the 50s/Illuminations... you can see some of the high level fireworks from 50's rooms in building 2 I believe... 2437-2460 is my best guess. And then maybe also 3413-3436

thanks, I'm going to ask again about the king bed since we really don't need the extra bed and I'd rather have the extra floor space if possible.

Tyler, you stated some room numbers in the 50's buildings that would make it possible to see the Epcot fireworks. Would those rooms be the pretty far from the main building, as far as distance of the 50's buildings go. I know you've said that nothing is too far away. It's be great to have the view, but not if it means a lot more walking for our 2 year old :)

Nah, they wouldn't be far, but not super close either. A comparable distance might be from the Flagpole on Main Street USA to the Tip Board, give or take.

We stayed at Pop on Dec. 19. So easy to get to right off of Osceola Parkway. Sorry I didn't see you Tyler- there were so many at the check-in desk I didn't know who you were. The line was long but moved along quickly.
This is a really cool resort!
We ended up in the 80's. My dd6 thought is was great to use the stairs and actually be inside the Rubik's cube. The rooms are nice. I found a problem right away. The sink stopper could not be raised up so water could drain. I called maintenance to report the problem, went to the car to get my luggage, came right back up to the room, and maintenance man was already laying there under the sink fixing it! I was very impressed with the quick service! The next morning (coldest of the year!) I found out that the shower water only got maybe lukewarm, if you used your imagination. However, the sink water got really hot! Well we suffered through our showers because we had to get out of there at a certain time but I made sure to tell the front desk manager prior to depature so the next guest would have hot water. I was understanding because I know Pop just opened and there are so many little kinks to straighten out.
I heard from this thread that there was psychodelic french toast with marshmellow fluff inside for breakfast- well it wasn't on any of the menus and nobody knew what I was talking about. A manager came over and said there was a fluffer nutter sandwich (psychodelic bread with marshmellow fluff and peanut butter) that they serve at lunch but she made arrangements so I got it for breakfast instead. Great customer service here!
However, the many different food stations made it difficult. My dd6 wanted something at one station so we waited in that line. Then I wanted something at another station so we had to wait in another line. You have to coordinate what you want so you're not waiting in a lot of lines.
The 60 and 70's buildings are the best with the giant Play-Doh, Big Wheel, table soccer, and Mickey phone. The little twister game outside the 70's bldg. was neat.
I loved looking at all the shadow boxes along the lobby wall.
All in all, a great resort. I would go back.

We've only stayed at Music and Movies and they were both like stated above where you have to wait in different lines for different types of food. Are not all resorts like this when it comes to eating at their "fast food" restaurants?

That is the way the "Food Courts" are all over the "world". Values only have food courts. Not sit down restaurants.

It was quickly discontinued after pretty much everyone said that it was icky.

I'm wishing they had tweaked it instead of getting rid of it. Perhaps, instead of fluff, throw in some fruit? Say, bananas? Psychedellic Tonga Toast! LOL

Wow, this thread is amazing :Pinkbounc I've really enjoyed reading it, thanks for all your responses Tyler. Do you know how much it costs to rent a refrigerator by any chance? Many thanks, Anz :earsgirl:

I think it works out to be around $10.65 with tax per night... give or take.
