Pop Century is Far Out!

I had to add a special countdown for PC (I'm spending most of this vacation at the beach!). I am a child of the 70s and am a little disapointed that they made the stairwells in those buildings 8-tracks - NOW WHY IS THAT THE ONLY LASTING IMPRESSION FROM THE 70S THAT COULD BE USED AS STAIRS? I can think of plenty of stuff to use like..... like....., alright, maybe 8-tracks were the best stuff to come out of the 70s - geez, that's depressing.

Are you all getting the impression that the geniuses at Disney Imagineering have hit on something here with PC - get the children that grew up with WDW to be excited about seeing their childhood toys and reliving some of the best from each generation......?

I'll be there soon! Thanks for the help, Tyler. I hope your new job is perfect!:earsboy:

Couldn't get my DS's to move to Pop Century. "They know what they like" --- sigh! Oh well, we're going to have a great time! Thanks for the report - I'll work on staying there on my next trip (teehee) princess:

I received the new WDW Vacation Planning DVD the other day and just put it into my computer’s DVD drive a short while ago. The DVD contains a section on the WDW resorts, including the new Pop Century Resort.

The Pop Century Resort looks like such a wonderful resort. The DVD contains short video clips of the following areas of that resort: a resort room (the two double bed layout), the resort buildings (both interior and exterior shots), the food court, the grounds, and the swimming pools. In the video clips there were even folks in the resort room and the swimming pools, so it gave a nice perspective on things.

The DVD also contained the two floor plans for the Pop Century resort rooms: the two double bed layout and the king bed layout. And it had a small photo gallery, too, but there are currently only three photos in it (drats).

I just found the following photo of a Pop Century meal: click here to view it.

The caption for that photo states the following:

Disney's Pop Century Resort will serve "comfort food" many will remember from their childhood. This is buttermilk fried chicken, mashed potatoes with white gravy, and fresh green beans, served "TV Dinner Style." Believe me, it tastes much better than any TV dinner I remember!

Wow! TV dinners at a WDW resort that do not taste like TV dinners. How cool is that?!

Would anyone care for a tie-dyed one? Click here to view a photo of one of the desserts.

The caption for that photo states the following:

Among the more colorful menu items at Disney's Pop Century Resort is this "Tye-Dyed" cheesecake with red velvet cake and berries. Other colorful choices include Fluffernutter sandwiches on tye-dyed bread. Remember those? Peanut butter and whipped marshmallow cream? They're a little before my time, but they are yummy.

Boy, my sweet tooth is killing me right about now. I bet the desserts are scrumptious. Yum!

I read on the Internet (and hope the information is accurate), that the resort will have a 7,000-square foot retail center in the resort's Classic Hall. Does anyone care to guess what sort of merchandise will be offered? Maybe a few of the items that are used as icons throughout the resort will wind up in the store: Duncan Yo-Yo’s, Rubik’s Cubes, 8-Track Tapes, Big Wheels, bowling pins, computers, etc.

There was an article on this today in Eyes & Ears. I cannot remember all the details, but I can tell you that "Everything POP!" will comprise of a large retail merchandise section, along with a 650 seat food court area. I'll have more info later.

Tyler-

Fill us in on all the details on the shop as you hear them. And which room/section of the hotel would you recommend to stay at?

I have really enjoyed this thread! We'll be there in December, not long after Pop! opens.

Gee, Tyler -- I guess I need to get a F.O.T. T-shirt now. :bounce:

I'll be sure to say Hi! if I see you.

WOW! One month from right now I will be strolling around the grounds of PC taking pictures like crazy and making notes of what to tell everyone. Can't wait. By now, of course, I will have seen Tyler and thanked him in person for all the wonderful information he has given us.

I'm in. Just booked Pop Century this morning for Jan. 23-31. I got a great e-mail rate of $49. I can't wait. :bounce:

What does that mean? An 'email rate'? I am hoping to get APs next September and then maybe we can get some of these good rates I see posted. When we stay at PC next month (Dec. 21 & 22) we are paying around $129 a night!

What does that mean? An 'email rate'?

Disney occasionally sends out post cards and emails to people at random, offering very good room only rates. I got one of these emails. It's the first time I've ever gotten one I can use.

BTW, the AP rate for this Dec for PC is $49. You might want to try to get that rate, and if you do, buy your AP's now. That might save you some money.

Well,

I think I'm going to book at Pop Century. It sounds great!!! I got a great rate for August 2004. I also got a good rate at the moderate resorts. Since non of the moderate resorts are in the center where the swan/dolphin and other deluxe resorts (and it looks like I'm going to rent a car anyway - to go to Universal) i may as well stay here!!!!

Thanks for ALL the information!!!!!!

Actually, Caribbean Beach is right next to Pop Century. And Coronado Springs is also just a hop away from the Swan/Dolphin.

Hey Tyler, thanks for all the great info...I now want to stay there instead of one of the All-Stars for my next trip. :teeth:

So Tyler, will we get a full report on Monday from your first day at PC?

We will be staying there exactly 1 week after it opens. I can't wait! Thanks for all the information!

How is Pop Century close to CB it seems so far away on the map the Disney offers online? How far is it really???

Yeah, they are right next door to each other. In fact, both resorts share the same Cast Services building, and are connected by a tunnel.
