Also, you can usually get 2 rooms at a value for less than 1 at a deluxe,( Not talking various codes/discounts here, but standard rack rate) if space is the only concern. Not only do you have more beds, but 2 BATHROOMS!
Deluxes have more amenities, and most offer more than 1 transportation option wher the values are bus/car only. We are fans of all levels, but do have to say the food courts at the values do allow us to have a more budget options than the deluxes do. However, that being said we have not been to the Poly or CR since the re-do's so thier food options may be just as economical.
I would compare the actual room to a colorful Fairfield Inn, or Holiday Inn...it is not like a Hampton Inn where there is a bed and a pull out couch. There is no firdge or microwave in the room rate, but you can rent a fridge and use the community microwave in the food court. the rooms are around 255 sq feet, and the sink /closet area is outside the shower/toilet area. There is a hairdryer in the rooms like the chain hotels offer, but not a coffee maker. Again, most head to the food court to get that and enjoy the morning walk. It is part of the trip to see so many eager faces in the a.m. getting ready to head off to the parks!
Where the values on property DO differ from a standard hotel chain would be the pools, pool bar/sncks, game rooms, grounds, transportaion, food court, gift shop,DME if needed, ticket service, in general the helpfulness of the CM's. You really do not have to use your car once you arrive...you can as an on site guest you do not pay for parking at the parks, but is it so nice to let Disney do the driving.
To be honest, my favorite value is ASMU mostly becasue of the lush grounds...to me, they have the most palm tress etc. around their main pool, and that sets the mood for me, but all the resorts have beautiful lanscaping of one style or another. Be careful though, for many, once youstay on-site, you never want to stay off site again!
Enjoy your trip!
