Pop Century disappointment

My mom and I checked into Pop on Oct 12 for a one night stay. Our room wasn't ready when it was time to leave for MNSSHP, so we left our luggage with Guest Services.

Upon returning to the resort at around 1:15 am, we checked into our room, 3rd floor 80's section (room 9314 to be precise) and were greeted with a half dozen 2.5 cm long, reddish-coloured cockroaches crawling around the mini fridge. The thought of potentially bringing home these little guys seemed a bit too much at the time so I called down to guest services and was issued another room, the last available room in fact. So mom and I walked across the resort to our new room assignment, 1st floor 50's section (room 3159). This time around the room appeared to be roach-free, but had this malodorous scent. The bathroom was what I would describe to be in poor condition - it was completely full of mold. At this point it was around 2:00 am and we were checking out @ 7, so we decided to stay put. I mean we didn't exactly have a choice in the matter, it was either a room with roaches or another one with mold.

Even though we both found the exterior of the resort to be absolutely charming, after this experience neither one of us would stay at this resort again. This one night cost me $180.00 Canadian, which for me at least, is pretty expensive considering the circumstances. I've stayed at other WDW resorts (AKL Kidani village, Saratoga Springs this past January, and POR twice) and had great experiences - so I hope this experience was just an anomaly. Still though - cannot help but be disappointed by this resort experience.

This is my fear with the offer of skipping housekeeping. Rooms will become infested. It doesn’t take much in Florida. Just a few crumbs, cherrios, gold fish crackers left on floor, not cleaned up. Food in trash not picked up daily. It’s a recipe for disaster. I hate this skip housekeeping offer. I’m sure now we’ll find infestations in a lot more rooms, in all resorts that are using this offer. Not just Pop. Yuck.

Sorry about that! It sounds like maybe they gave you a room in the 50's that was already out of commission, but since they had nothing else left, they gave it to you anyways. That happened to us once at a different resort.

As tired as you were, you should have gone to the front desk with this complaint. I think they should have not charged you for your room or at least offered to pay half.

So sorry this happened to you.
Vacations & getaways require a lot of time, money & planning. These are the negative scenarios that you never plan on but really impact the memory of the time away.
Contact Guest Relations in writing about this poor experience.
Good luck!

I would send an email to guest communications to report the conditions of both rooms. wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com is the email address and they're great with following up. A bathroom full of mold is a health hazard and just not an acceptable condition. Roaches are icky, for lack of a better word, but I think I'd have sent them off to neverland and remained in that room if the only alternative was a room with very apparent mold.

**update**

I contacted guest services and was informed that I would be receiving a full refund for my one night stay! I’m very surprised that I was given a full refund - but it’s of course a great result. Of course we would have preferred to have a clean room above everything else, but this is the next best possible result!

Thank you everyone for your comments.

So glad to hear that they made it "right" after your feedback. :)
