Pop Century - Diff Between Std. and Preferred

There are preferred rooms in 50's, 60's, 70's and maybe some 90's, but not really sure about that one. The only difference is the distance to the food court/bus stops.
I have stayed at POP many times. My favorite room??? 4441...60's bldg 4, fourth floor, facing the lake. It's about as far away from a preferred room as you can get, but it's only a 4 min walk to the food court. I have been in bldg 2 of 50's, way the heck at the very back of the bldg, on the third floor..but it was less than 5 mins to the food court.
A year ago, I decided to book a preferred room. We got the 70's area, bldg 10, ground floor. I hated it. Yes, it was convenient. But there was a ton of foot traffic at all times. People constantly walking by our room. Drove me nuts. I'm going down in again in Dec and I booked a standard room again.

We stayed in this same general area, 60s building, 4th floor facing the lake. It was the same distance from the main building, buses and food court as the preferred rooms only it did not face the pool. I never wanted to face the pool because of the noise and foot traffic. This is the same area we have requested for our trip in January.

yeah, i was going to use a different word, but decided not to. There is something very lurid about the 80's buildings, tho.

Although on second thought, maybe i *should* ask to stay there -- because then i won't see them when i'm looking out the window. Hmm........
:3dglasses

Is it so bad??? It will be our first visit to disney resorts and we are planning to stay in the 80's building...

14 days 8 hours 15 minutes

Not at all, they're just poking fun ...

Google search "Red light district"

If it is just two adults and you are planning on using your car, I wouldn't pay the extra money for the room. When you call you should specifically request the 80's or 90's buildings, because they are closest to the parking lots. The 50s building is also standard rooms, and it can be a hike to the parking lot. I like the 80s buildings the best because they are very close to the parking lot, buses and Classic Hall.

I agree! We were put on the ground floor of the 80's building on the side closest to the parking lot because we requested not being far from the buses. The walk to Classic Hall was not bad at all. I did it several times a day to refill our refillable mugs.

This map indicates the preferred room areas in Yellow.

I have read that it's better to stay in the 4th or 3rd floor because of the noise at ground level. How noisy was your room???

Called WDW travel today and changed to a standard room. Saved us about $100. DEFINITELY worth the change! Thanks for all the advice everyone!

At least with a preferred room, you don't have to worry about getting stuck in the 90's. I hate the 90's! If you are in the far outer ends of the 90's it feels like you are very far away from Classic Hall. And I don't like having to walk across the parking lot to get to the buses or Classic Hall.

We have stayed in prefered a few times and this time we are staying standard. It just didn't seem to be worth the extra $$.

We stayed in a standard room in the 80's section before... we were super close to the busses, the computer pool was on the other side of the building, and if we wanted to get to the main hall it was maybe a 3 - 4 minute walk.

Personally, it's the decision on if $150 is worth a close room or if you'd rather spend that on something else.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. Yes, the noise was an issue some nights, especially when there was a screaming baby, but what are you gonna do, after all it is Disney? :goodvibes
