Pop Century Cleanliness??

Ok RECENT GUESTS , (I aso have this on another thread but figured I would add it here in hopes of getting more hits) I have not stayed at POP since September of 2009!!! I'm hearing some roach/gross bug reports??!!! I have to say I' am shocked since the 3x I have stayed at POP it's been immaculate (and I'm tough to please since I clean for a living.) PLEASE tell me, has it changed that much in the last 4 years?? How would all of you recent guests rate the over all cleanliness of the rooms?? I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!! Thanks in Advance!!

I need to still do my trip report, and I was one of the ones who posted previously about some roaches last week. Once we were moved, the new room was spotless and we had no further issues!! The house keeping manager said that if you have critters to call them. If it is something like roaches (or bed bugs) they NEED to know so they can exterminate. If you just keep killing them and don't report it, then don't know, and then the problem gets worse.

The rest of the resort was clean and wonderful. Once we were moved, no complaints. Except for the toilet paper dispenser in the lobby bathroom I went to pull the paper and it opened up and smacked in the temple. OMG did it hurt (Stainless), this happened 2 hours before I left and boy does it hurt today. It's in my hair line so I can't see it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's bruised it hurts so much!

I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again

Roaches?? For Real?? Good Lord would that terrify me!! I feel like their crawling up my arm as I type this now... I'm very sorry to hear about this but I am glad that your new room was clean ... The Thing that worries me about roaches is this: They say that if you step on one who is pregnant, you bring back the infestation Man, Oh Man do bugs creep me out!!! Praying I don't run into them when we go this fall yikes!! Ty for the 411, I appreciate your honest reply

If the gross bugs you were reading about giant flying 'roaches', those are palmetto bugs. A fact of life in FL, and their presence has absolutely nothing to do with cleanliness. Disney could exterminate in every room after every single guest, and would still never eliminate the possibility of having one in a guest's room. You open the door to the outside, and stuff flies in. Or crawls in. Or rides in on a guest's clothing or shoes or luggage. Or rides in on a housekeeping cart.

We had a palmetto bug in our bathroom at GF years ago. Yeah, they'll huge and they'll sure startle you, but there's not much you can do about it. It probably flew in when we had the balcony door open to watch Wishes.

We stayed at Pop Century last week for 1 night and it was the cleanest room I've stayed in on Disney property. I was very pleased and will definitely return there.

Hi Lynn, I'm not sure if it was the flying roach or not. Palmetto bugs although they fly and yes they could be tracked in easily (gives mesomewhat peace of mind) it is still a roach species. I would just personally hate to find one. But, I hope it was a flying one and not something their being infested with for lack of up keep. As I mentioned, the few times I stayed at POP were impressionable clean for me but it has been 4 years. I also read on another thread that they just did some work on the kiddie pool so that puts me in good spirits that they are trying to keep up with the property

That is GREAT to hear!! Do you remember which section you stayed in?

We stayed at Pop Century last week for 1 night and it was the cleanest room I've stayed in on Disney property. I was very pleased and will definitely return there.

We had the manager and pest control come check them out. They were not large. And not big like cockroaches or large flying bugs others talk about. In length 1/2-3/4" at most. Perhaps the size of a pinky or ring finger nail.

We were concerned since we found 4 within the hour. And didn't know what type of bug it was. We were told they like to live behind the fridges since its warm. They wanted us to move and wanted to spray and glad we called.

The checked our new room inside out before we packed up and moved. Which I did post about in the POP thread. This was at midnight! Our first night and with 2 sleeping kids!!

It didn't ruin my holiday, nor would I hesitate to stay again. Pop was more than accommodating. And the manager personally helped us pack up and move rooms.

Bugs happen, I get it.

When we stayed at Pop last Dec., there were dozens of lizards running around the landscaping. It's a wonder any bug stood a chance at survival.

Actually, finding out the section isn't going to help you. From my experience growing up, if there is an infestation in one house and that owner gets rid of the roaches, those pesky suckers just pack up and move right next door.

So if their were some roaches in room 12 and the exterminator came out and got rid of the ones you could see, the others ones just left and went to room 14.

I really wouldn't worry about it - if you see bugs, go to the front desk and tell them you want to be moved. But if you have a big aversion to bugs, Florida might not be the place for a vacation.

We was at Pop May 8-12. It was very clean and we didn't see any bugs. Well other than the 'lovebugs' flying around outside. Never knew what those things were till the ME bus driver told us. lol

Everything was nice and clean. From the rooms, foodcourt, and bathrooms. Actually, it seemed there was someone cleaning the bathrooms everytime I went to the food court.

We were in room 5110. Right in front of the refurbed Kiddie pool. And it was a ground floor room, so I would think they are more likely to have bugs.

We had a wonderful time but I have to say as much as we love POP, we are ready to try something else. Next trip is POR-Royal rooms and CSR business rooms. BUT we would not hesitate to stay at pop again.

yes....they live there, and it's a part of FL life.... we stayed at Pop last Dec.-it was perfect

Exactly. We stayed at pop and we had 2 unwanted creepers. The maids need to open the doors we open the doors. But my room was spotless. Best housekeeping we have had has always been at pop. There bugs there part of life. Just don't go during the love bug conventions.

Palmetto bugs are not German roaches. They are not indications of lack of housekeeping. Remember, roaches survived the ice age. They will survive exterminators. They like dark, warm, moist areas, which seems to fit Florida.

We stayed in building #1 - highly recommend . Great convenient location to dining and buses and pools. Very clean. Never saw a bug in our room or anywhere in building 1. Housekeeping was very good, brought us extra pillows when requested! Great experience and we usually stay at the Poly. Now the kids are asking if we can go back to Pop instead! We had a very positive experience...and saved lots of money compared to Poly.

We stayed in the 80's section by Roger Rabbit on the 4th floor.
